Victoria Leigh Soto was a 27-year-old first-grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

On December 14, 2012, when Adam Lanza entered the school and began sh**ting, Soto sprung into action.

She hid all her students into a closet and bathroom, then positioned herself between them and the door.

When Lanza entered her classroom, she lied to him and told him the children weren't there, and he believed it.

But as some of the children began to run from their hiding places, Lanza spotted them, and without hesitation, she placed herself between them and the att*cker, using her own body to shield them.

Lanza sh*t and killed her. Her actions saved several lives.

She was posthumously awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Obama.
Schools, scholarships, and roads have since been named in her honor.

Her family said afterward that Vicki d*ed doing what she loved, protecting the children she cared for.

Sauntore Thomas had just finally settled a grueling racial discrimination lawsuit against his former employer.

With the legal battle over he was excited to plan for the future.

He walked into his local bank holding his settlement check looking to deposit the money and open a new savings account.

But instead of cashing it, the bank employees flagged the checks as fraudulent and completely locked down his account, and the police were called.

Suddenly ,Thomas found himself standing in the lobby surrounded by four cops being actively investigated for fraud.

To avoid getting arrested he literally had to pull up his legal paperwork and show the officers proof that he had just won a lawsuit for racial discrimination.

The cops realized he was telling the truth and left.

The bank still refused to deposit the money, so Thomas walked out.

He drove to Liberty Bank, a Black-owned institution a few miles away, and deposited his settlement checks in seconds with zero issues.

No questions. No police. No problem.

Then he called his lawyer and hit the first bank with a brand new racial discrimination lawsuit.

He won that one too.

Note to anyone - don't mess with this man! 😅

12-year-old Cody Green lost his 10-year battle with leukemia battle at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

He had been diagnosed at 22 months and fought the cancer into remission three times.

His parents said he drew strength from the U.S. Marine Corps his entire life, and always wanted to join one day.

In his final days, the Marines made Cody an honorary member of the Corps for what they called his "strength, honor and courage."

But retired Sergeant Mark Dolfini wanted to do more. He felt a personal connection to Cody.

When Cody's family told him the boy was nearing his final hours, Dolfini drove to the hospital in full dress blues, took his post outside Cody's door, and stood guard for 8 straight hours through the night.

He did this all on his own time, and his own accord.

He saluted Cody's mother every time she entered or left the room.

He brought a Marine flag and his own navigator wings. "Maybe these will help Cody find his way," he said.

At the funeral, Dolfini saluted Cody's mother one last time and called it the hardest thing he had ever done.
