"Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best." - Theodore Isaac Rubin quotes from BrainyQuote.com

Raquel hails from Fresno, California!

My name is Raquel Calles and I proudly serve on the Stanton Elementary School team, where Stanton is a habit!

"I am a City Year corps members and the reason I chose to work with this organization in particular is because I've been in the position that many of the students we work with are currently in. I've been looked down upon and told that I was destined to fail because of the areas in which I grew up in. I however persevered but realize that I wouldn't have been able to do that if it wasn't for the dedication and good faith in the few teachers that cared and believed in me."

"In return I'd like to be that person that students look back on and although maybe not make immediate changes now, will realize that there are people who are cheering on their successes and there to support during any fails."

"Education in our time, is a civil rights issue that ought to be addressed."

"My future plans are to attend law school and work for a non-profit that focuses on prisoners' rights."
