Milestone strengthens SAMS’ ability to deliver high-quality, independent continuing medical education worldwide
The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) has been reviewed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) and awarded Provisional Accreditation for two years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.
Accreditation in the ACCME System seeks to assure the medical community and the public that SAMS delivers education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.
“This accreditation marks an important step for SAMS and reflects our commitment to advancing high-quality, independent medical education,” said Dr. Nidal El-wiher, SAMS CME Director. “It strengthens our ability to support physicians across the United States and around the world, and highlights our responsibility to contribute to better healthcare both here at home and globally.”
“This process involved far more than an application—it required 18 months of building systems, writing and refining policies, aligning every element with ACCME standards, and ensuring our approach to education meets the highest expectations for quality and independence. It’s incredibly meaningful to see that work come to life,” said Ala’a ElShaar, SAMS CME Manager.
As an ACCME-accredited provider, SAMS is now authorized to design and deliver CME activities that offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. This enables the organization to expand its global educational programming and support healthcare professionals in maintaining licensure, improving clinical knowledge, and enhancing patient outcomes.
SAMS’ CME activities will focus on the most relevant and evolving areas of healthcare, providing accessible, evidence-based education that reflects emerging best practices while addressing the needs of diverse and dynamic care settings.
The ACCME is a nonprofit organization that establishes national standards to ensure continuing medical education is independent, evidence-based, and effective.
With this achievement, SAMS will continue to expand its educational initiatives, foster international collaboration, and contribute to strengthening healthcare systems worldwide.

📍Al-Huweidi Hospital, Deir Ezzor | SAMS 💛

In Deir Ezzor, where access to care is limited, mothers hold on to hope wherever they can.

At Al-Huweidi Hospital, the only facility in the city with a pediatric department, SAMS supports lifesaving care for thousands of families. Serving a population of nearly 600,000, the hospital’s women’s and pediatric departments provide critical treatment every single day.

When two-month-old Aisha arrived from Al-Qouriya in critical condition, suffering from severe intestinal inflammation, her mother feared the worst. The medical team acted immediately, conducting urgent tests, closely monitoring her for days, and ensuring she received the care she needed to stabilize. Today, Aisha remains under close supervision, continuing her path toward recovery. 💛
