For years, Mrs. Maryam lived with constant stomach pain without answers, without diagnosis, and without access to care in Hama. Over time, her condition worsened, silently and steadily.

When she finally reached Bab Al-Hawa Hospital with SAMS support, she was already critically ill, needing urgent transfusions and a CT scan. The diagnosis was heartbreaking: advanced stomach cancer, untreated for too long.

🎗️Restore Hope for Syrian Survivors

For over 14 years, countless Syrians have endured unimaginable suffering — arbitrary detention, torture, sexual violence, and enforced disappearance.

Survivors suffer from a wide spectrum of mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety disorders, and in some cases, severe and complex conditions such as psychotic disorders.

According to recent reports, more than one million Syrians have experienced detention or torture since the conflict began. The need for comprehensive mental health and psychosocial support has never been more urgent.

That’s why SAMS is expanding its mental health and psychosocial support efforts to serve those affected by prolonged conflict and trauma across Syria. Through this initiative we aim to provide comprehensive mental health and psychosocial support to 6,900 survivors across four specialized centers in Aleppo, Homs, Damascus, and Rural Damascus.
