Older adults, people with disabilities a casualty of Medicaid unwinding, analysis says
The Medicaid unwinding, which began April 1, has affected an estimated 76,630 older adults and people with disabilities in 22 states. This equates to approximately 5% of total disenrollments in those states, according to the latest analysis by Damon Terzaghi, director of Medicaid home- and community-based services (HCBS) for the National Association for Home Care & Hospice.
The real percentage, Terzaghi fears, is likely much higher, as certain states that have reported specifically on disenrollments among the older adult and disabled populations revealed much higher percentages.
“I would say we’re probably looking at more the 8 to 10 percent range, if not higher, for the proportion of older adults and people with disabilities,” he told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse on Wednesday.
