This is so heartbreaking 💔, yet so common... but it didn’t have to be this way.

Many curlies' greatest fear: years of protecting your curls, only to see them severly damaged in one visit.

I hear this same story over and over again: "I went to a stylist, and they messed my hair up. I never straighten my hair. "

SILK PRESSES DON'T HAVE TO DAMAGE YOUR HAIR.

But they will if:
- You don't prepare your hair to take heat, we can't remove years of buildup in one visit.
- No detox to remove buildup
- No molecular/bond repair before heat.

Heat damage isn’t really about the press itself. It’s about the science behind it. You can get heat damage with low heat depending on hair's condition and what's on it.

This is why I take a scientific approach.
This is why the Restorative Silkening exists. This is why prep is NON-NEGOTIABLE. This is how I protect you.

---

framed her experience not just as “damage” but as grief. And her grief is valid. When she said, it reignited her trauma and mistrust, I felt that in my soul. There is a way forward. Your trauma ends here.

To those scared of heat because of stories like this - damage isn't inevitable. It's a CHOICE.

You trust professionals with your hair, but your hair is trusting you.

Stop gambling with years of growth, and give your hair a fair shot.

Following my prep regimen + a comprehensive detox and bond repair before the hair meet hot plates gives your hair a fair shot.

Three generations - One Legacy

Today is more than just flowers and gifts. It's not really a one size fits kinda thing, either. Much like our curls.

It's more of an invitation to honor our legacy, what we inherit, what we pass down, and the generational cycles we choose to heal.

We inherit more than just curl patterns. And I want to honor just that:

The care we did or didn't receive.
The healing we choose.
The beauty we reclaim.

My mother was my first mirror. She taught me knowledge of self very early - that alone taught me beauty, worth, and care.

While she didn’t know how to do my hair (not because she didn’t care), HER mother didn't know how to do hair.

So, I made it my point to learn.

AND GET THIS: My daughter (at 27 years old) told me I never taught her how to do her hair! The of it all.

I'm not perfect. I'm still growing. Still healing.

Today, I honor and celebrate mothering care in all its forms—not just biological motherhood, but aunties, grandmothers, godmothers, chosen mothers, and mothering friends that made me feel seen.

Your healing becomes someone else’s inheritance.

HEY, Y'ALL, HEY!

I've been quiet on here, but not still.

While I haven't been posting, I've been deep in client transformations, creating frameworks, refining my approach, and preparing for what's next.

Some transformations require you to be fully focused, over public sharing—and that's EXACTLY where I've been. Also, these transformations are sacred, and these innanet streets are MEAN spirited. So, protecting my energy and my clients are a priority over public sharing.

In these months of digital quiet, I've seen:

- Erica seeing what's possible for her hair after mainly wearing wigs. "I didn't know my hair could look like this."

- Rosalie's excitement growing with each precision snip. She started off nervous, but she grew more excited with every snip. - "❤️ It look better and better each day as the volume grows. I've gotten plenty of compliments!"

- Taryn patiently watched her heat-damaged curls remembering their pattern.

- Henry going from frizzy curls that don't last to longer lasting defined curls that grew fast. - His goals realized!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Beginning May 5th, I'm pausing all new client bookings and color services to refine my approach.

For existing clients: Your appointments will proceed as scheduled.
For everyone else: I'm only taking on 4 new clients who can book by May 5th. After that, the Waitlist opens for July bookings.

✨ A New Mom's Story

"My concerns were dryness and breakage after summer braids"

She inquired about one of my packages designed to transform your hair.

As a new mom, her time was precious. She needed more than products - she needed real solutions that fit her life.

The style was week 2 of the strategic treatment package - a Bantu knot out

First slide: First day of package

The result?
"I washed & conditioned in less than an hour, my hair felt really easy to detangle and work with"

Real transformation happens when we understand your whole story.

From "post-braid damage" to "under an hour wash day" 🌟

Real client wins:
"I washed & conditioned in less than an hour" = Time savings (she self-cares to have more time to care of new baby).

"my hair felt really easy to detangle and work with" = Improved manageability, Sustainable results. (Thanks for sharing your story).

This is what happens when you:
- Trust the process (ALL of it)
- Follow professional guidance
- Use proper products
- Maintain consistency

Your hair is telling a story - are you listening?

I know I'm on the other side of the country here in DC, but community has no borders.

LA peeps: Check in!

The wildfires in LA are impacting countless families, small businesses, and some of my fellow hair stylists.  I could not even imagine what my community is facing, and I want to offer my support—both as a stylist/educator and as someone who believes we’re all connected.  I believe in showing up for one another—even from afar—so I want to share a few resources that can help anyone affected:

• LA County Emergency Preparedness: ready.lacounty.gov
• Red Cross Disaster Services: redcross.org/get-help/disaster-relief-and-recovery-services.html
• Airbnb.org, in partnership with 211 LA, is offering free temporary housing

Also, check my stories as I share updates on donations and resources.

Being based in DC doesn’t stop me from caring about what’s happening to my fellow professionals, clients, and friends on the West Coast or in Ghana.

If you have any additional resources to share, please drop them below or send me a message. Let’s stand together, even when we’re miles apart.

Let’s continue to stay compassionate and supportive and look out for one another—wherever we are in the world.

Stay safe.

Not all hair care is created equal.

Each type of professional brings a different approach to your hair health.

Understanding the difference between these roles helps set clear expectations.

I see many clients SAY they want someone who "specializes" in natural hair, but when it comes to the reality of specialized care, the approach is stark in differences, but the difference in approach isn’t always clear.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I went to [Insert famous stylist], but they don't focus on getting the hair healthier. I want somebody to teach me about caring for my natural hair. "

Did they say that's what they do? We can't complain about miscommunicated expectations.

Some may say that "specializing" in healthy hair should be the basics, but the reality is, just styling and people-pleasing isn't always what's best in the long run.

Healthy hair is what you maintain with your stylist- consistently.

Do you want a stylist to just do your hair—or a specialist who transforms it with a customized approach?

What's more important to you: temporary, on demand, quick fixes, or obtaining and maintaining healthy hair in the long run?

Which one are you ready to invest in?

Very few are ready/willing to commit to and invest in the partnership required to obtain and maintain thriving hair.

Do you require consultations or a strand test before coloring? Share your thoughts below to help educate clients about the importance.

I’ve tagged the colorists behind the inspo pics my clients bring to me. Maybe you can explain to clients what it takes to get their desired color with you (like those light highlights with ash tones), and why that’s important.

———————————————————————————

CLIENTS: I’ve invited color specialists whose work you admire. So turn on the post notifications to stay tuned and learn more about achieving your dream color.

I’m going to have to run this back again: Are you READY to see a Curl Specialist?.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE SALON + YOUR STYLIST SKILLS = YOUR RESULTS

1) A Curl Specialist is more like a specialist doctor and unlike a general practitioner.

🔑Just like a specialist doctor may ask you to forgo the use of nasal sprays, caffeine, fast for 8 hours, or drink lots of water, a Curl Specialist may ask you to prepare.

🔑When you don’t prepare, a specialist doctor will reschedule your appointment and you will STILL PAY A COPAY upon checking out.

2) Realistic expectations- It’s an unrealistic expectation to expect great results and healthy hair in one visit after months or years of damaging, dehydrated habits.

🔑Alter (pipe down) your expectations if you have heat damage, been in protective styles or simply subscribe to an influencer’s regimen.

We can only work with what you bring in.

3) Before your first visit with a Curl Specialist, or if you are seeing a new specialist, follow their preparation guidelines PRIOR to their visit, because the condition of your hair will determine your results and you may even spend more money if the hair you bring in is doing the most.

The most requires the most.
