Rules When Visiting a New Mom ✨

When a new baby arrives, everyone is excited. Friends, family, neighbors—everyone wants to come over, hold the baby, and celebrate. But here’s the truth: a new mom doesn’t just need visitors… she needs understanding, respect, and support.

If you’re planning to visit a new mom, here are some unspoken rules you should always keep in mind:

1. Don’t come empty-handed.
Bring food, diapers, wipes, or even just coffee. A small act of kindness means the world when she hasn’t slept in days.

2. Wash your hands before touching the baby.
No exceptions. Babies are fragile, and germs are real.

3. Don’t overstay.
A short visit (20–30 minutes) is enough. She’s healing, she’s tired, and she doesn’t need to entertain anyone.

4. Don’t expect to hold the baby.
Sometimes, the baby just needs mom. Respect that.

5. Help more than you talk.
Fold laundry. Wash dishes. Take out the trash. Support doesn’t always mean advice—it means action.

6. Don’t bring your problems.
This is not the time to unload your drama. Keep the visit light and supportive.

7. Respect her choices.
Whether she’s breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, co-sleeping or crib-sleeping—her baby, her rules. No judgment.

8. Text before you come.
Don’t just show up. New moms need time to prepare mentally and physically for company.

9. Don’t kiss the baby.
Even if you love them, their health comes first.

10. Remember: She’s recovering, too.
The spotlight may be on the baby, but don’t forget to check in on the mom. She needs love, encouragement, and grace.

💜 A visit should leave her feeling lighter, not more exhausted.

If you had to choose just one after having a baby — a home-cooked meal, a nap, a hot shower, uninterrupted snuggles, or clean laundry — what would you pick?
And why is the only right answer all of the above? 😅
Because you shouldn’t have to choose. Let a postpartum doula take care of the rest so you can focus on what matters most. 💛

Happy Labor Day!

Did you know Oon average, labor for first-time parents lasts 12 to 24 hours — yep, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Every birth story is unique, but patience (and support!) makes all the difference. 💪🍼

How long did your first labor last?

🖤 Black Breastfeeding Matters 🍼

Black mothers in the U.S. face significant disparities when it comes to breastfeeding:

📉 Only 74.1% of Black moms start breastfeeding — the lowest rate among all racial and ethnic groups.

⏳ At 6 months, just 44% continue. At 12 months? Only 24.1%.

📊 Black women are 2.5x less likely to breastfeed than white women.

🏥 In hospitals, Black mothers are 9x more likely to be given formula — instead of support to breastfeed.

👶 And for preterm babies, only 1 in 4 Black moms can continue providing breast milk after the NICU.

These are not just numbers — they’re the result of systemic barriers, bias, and a lack of support. It’s time to change that.

🤎✨ Black Breastfeeding Week 2025 is here!
This year’s theme — “Boots on the Ground: Rooted in Breastfeeding Success, Grounded in Community Support” — celebrates the powerful work being done on the front lines to support, educate, and uplift Black families on their feeding journies.

We honor the advocates, doulas, lactation consultants, community leaders, and parents who are showing up every day to build a future where Black breastfeeding is visible, valued, and victorious. ✊🏾

Let’s keep growing strong roots together — in health, in tradition, and in community.
