Mark your calendar for DC’s Falls Prevention Awareness Week the week of September 22-26, 2025! There will be a series of events in the city that are open to the public. This is a perfect opportunity for everyone to take simple steps to reduce their risk of falls!
If you are worried about your balance -- or the safety of a loved one -- or just want to learn ways to start today to have a stronger future – this is the event for you!

What to expect at the event:
-Get balance, strength, vision, medications, and blood pressure tested/screened for free
-Stations to learn about ways to make their homes safer, preventative exercises, and how to get up if someone does fall
-Free, giveaway bag for each participant and raffles for equipment and gift cards
-AARP DC will be providing participants with free snacks & a “File of Life” to keep their most important information in an accessible place in case of emergency

Tues. 9/23 11am-3pm: GW University, Student Center, 800 21st St NW
Wed. 9/24 10am-2pm: UDC, Student Center, 4200 Connecticut Ave NW
Thurs. 9/25 10am-2pm: Howard University, Louis Stokes Library, 501 W St NW
The event is hosted in partnership with the DC Department of Aging and Community Living, Home Care Partners/Safe at Home, the four universities, and many other community partners and agencies!!
