Volunteers Needed Onsite at USPHS Symposium
The Logistics Committee is seeking volunteer help to augment COF staff onsite and ensure a smooth-flowing and successful conference. Duties are time-limited and straight-forward. For Junior Officers it is a great opportunity to showcase your talents and expand your network. For Senior Officers, it is an excellent way to give back! All volunteers will receive background information and support in advance and a Certificate of Appreciation afterward. Uniform Announced for USPHS Symposium
The following uniforms are prescribed for PHS Commissioned Corps officers attending the 2012 USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium at the University of Maryland, College Park from June 19-21. Working uniform (Summer White, Service Khaki, Service Dress Blue) are the prescribed uniform of the day for Symposium attendees. The uniform for the Anchor & Caduceus Dinner on Tuesday evening, June 19, is Service Dress Blue.

Free Public Performance by the USPHS Wind and Choral Groups at the National Mall
Following the 2012 COF Scientific and Training Symposium you are invited to come see a free performance in Washington DC featuring the USPHS Wind and Choral groups and the USPHS Honor Cadre! Help us honor the memories of the Greatest Generation in song as we present music of the era, a tribute to Veterans, and a patriotic celebration in honor of the Uniformed Services. If you're coming to the DC area for the COF Scientific and Training Symposium stay for the weekend and come enjoy the concert! The concert is Saturday June 23, 2012 from 1830-1930 at the National WWII Memorial.

USPHS Music Ensemble Weekend Concert 23 June

Saturday, June 23, 2012 National WWII Memorial, Washington, DC 6:30pm - 7:30pm. USPHS Music Ensemble will honor the memories of the greatest generation in song as they present music of the era, a tribute to Veterans, and a patriotic celebration in honor of the Uniformed Services.

The special Saturday hours of the Parklawn uniform shop had to be cancelled due to utility work at the Parklawn Building. The uniform shop will be open for it's normal Wednesday hours (1200-1300) but will NOT be open on Saturday April 21st as previously announced.

Uniformed Services Tax Preparation

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) volunteers cut the ribbon Monday to open the WRNMMC Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Center in Building 1 (the Tower), 1st floor, Room 1643. To start the season, the tax center will be open for service from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Friday. The center may add an additional day as the April tax deadline day approaches. The center offers free tax assistance, including preparation and electronic filing of federal and state tax returns, to wounded warriors and their families, active duty members and their families, widows and widowers of Operations Just Cause, Iraqi and Enduring Freedom service members, reservists and guards on active duty more than 30 days, and retirees on a space-available basis.

DC COA held its 3rd annual holiday bowling party Sunday, 12/11 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bowling Alley in Bethesda, MD. We hosted nearly 50 bowlers including Chief of Staff, RADM Halliday, as well as Deputy Surgeon General, RADM Lushniak and his family. At the end of the evening CDR O’Toole was presented with a gift card as high scoring bowler. Ms. Dee Dee Lumpkin (guest of LCDR Welch) was also presented with a gift card as the low scoring bowler. PHS merchandise was available for purchase thanks to LCDR Hammond. Sales exceeded more than $450! Overall, the event was a great success!
