Please sign this petition supporting insurance reimbursement for mental health services using video conferencing. It is critical that everyone have access to therapy during the pandemic. Your support would be appreciated.

For those currently involved in mental health treatment, now is the worst time to lose access to the services on which they rely. (16688 signatures on petition)

Street back when library stacks were open. My library visits in those long-ago years were surreptitious affairs: a half hour stolen between work and home, or a weekend hour nicked from grocery shopping and kids. I felt like I was sneaking into an alchemist’s laboratory, tantalized by important truth...

This blog was a delight to read: It clearly makes the case for the importance of attending to image in psychotherapy. Many psychological states are only accessible through image; words alone fail.

A great explanation of why good psychotherapy is more than quick-fix symptom relief.

http://www.ny-psychotherapy.com/not-a-quick-fix/

We live at a fast pace. We want it fast and done with immediate results. We want easy solutions that come in the form of a pill. And when it hurts, we just want it to stop or feel numb until it disappears. But it doesn’t work like that in psychotherapy. Why can’t psychotherapy be a band-aid like eve...

This inspiring blog uses 's own words to focus on the central question around which, in some fashion or another, every good depth psychotherapy or psychoanalysis revolves. Enjoy!

“Naturally, I thought about the significance of what I was doing, and asked myself, ‘Now, really, what are you about?’ You are building a small town, and doing it as if it were a rite!” I had no answer to my question, only the inner certainty that I was on the way to discovering my own myth. Studies of Treatment Effectiveness: Comparing Psychodynamic Therapies with CBT and Medication
by Mark Winborn, PhD, NCPsyA

Introduction: In recent years there has been a great deal of publicity and advertisingregarding the benefits of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as cost effective approaches to treating emotional issues and various forms of mental distur- bance. Additionally, sources that advocate for the use of “cost-effective” treatments often point to psychodynamic treatment as outdated, ineffectual and not cost-effective. However, the information being disseminated to the public does not accurately portray the effectiveness of either medication or CBT, nor does it accurately represent the available research on psychodynamic therapy as a robust, contemporary treatment that is both clinically effective and cost-effective. The psycho-pharmaceutical industry and insurance companies have vested monetary interest in misrepresenting the scientific findings for these various treatments. In this brief position paper, the available scientific literature for medication interventions, CBT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy will be contrasted and reviewed. .http://naap.org/website/aboutpsychoanalysis
