Dee Sapp Speaks Let’s chat about it!

I have a bold, unwavering voice at the intersection of leadership, culture, and real situations where smart, honest, sometimes spicy conversations spark thought, challenge norms, and set the stage for what’s worth saying out loud.

They say “all are welcome.”

But for many families living with autism… that hasn’t always been true. Autism doesn’t always look like what people expect in a church setting.

It may show up as:
• A child who can’t sit still through service
• A teen who avoids eye contact or doesn’t respond when greeted
• A sudden need to leave during worship because the music is overwhelming
• A young adult who processes sermons differently or needs more time to engage
• A family sitting near the exit…just in case

Too often, those moments are misunderstood as disruption… instead of difference.

A little over a month ago, I stood in a local church and spoke about something that shouldn’t be revolutionary but still is. Since that conversation, the work that I’ve done in the faith community has grown.

I’ve been invited back to:
• Share a Holy Communion reflection on what the resurrection means to me
• Lead the church’s autism support group
• Moderate a women’s conference while continuing this conversation on inclusion, strategy, and accountability

This is what real community engagement looks like, this is what bridge-building looks like.
So what can churches DO that is not performative inclusion, more than good intentions, and is real, practical change?

• Normalize movement, noise, and different forms of participation
• Train greeters and leaders to respond with understanding—not judgment
• Create sensory-aware environments (even small adjustments matter)
• Communicate clearly with families before they even walk through the door
• Extend grace—to the individual and to the entire family

If the environment doesn’t feel safe for their loved one, the entire family stays home. That means we’re not just excluding individuals, we’re losing entire families from community, connection, and faith spaces.

There will always be people who question my work. Who ask, “What does she actually do?”
I build bridges between what exists and what’s possible. Right here in Southern Maryland. Across the state of Maryland. In real spaces. With real people. Creating real change.

If your church, organization, or leadership team is ready to move beyond intention and into action I am ready to partner with you. Let’s build communities where everyone belongs. Reach out to schedule a conversation or bring this work to your space.

Happiness doesn't have to be a yacht or a 5am grind routine.

It’s coffee that hits, love that doesn’t stress you out, a home that feels like exhale, and a body that works with you, not against you.

Simple, right?

If it suddenly feels harder, you’re not lost you’re leveling up!

I recognize that “almost there” never feels cute in the moment, but keep going anyway!

Easter isn’t just about tradition, it’s a reminder that you can have a fresh start. Regardless of what this past season held, today is an invitation to begin again.

You can rise from what tried to weigh you down. You can let go of what no longer aligns with who you’re becoming. You must believe that growth is happening, even if you can’t see it yet.

You are allowed to start over, to outgrow old versions of yourself, to step into something lighter, stronger, and more aligned. Reset, renew, and quietly make your comeback.

Happy Easter!!

Trust isn’t broken by strangers, it’s broken by those closest to us. Judas had a front row seat to purpose and still missed transformation.

Proximity doesn’t equal growth and exposure doesn’t equal change. You can be around truth, hear wisdom, witness greatness and remain the same.

Greed and selfishness are camouflaged at the onset. It’s quiet, justifiable, and slowly trades your values for temporary gain until what you’ve given up is gone forever.

Are you just close to what’s good for you or are you actually being transformed by it?

Check your circle. Check your motives. Check your heart. Not all betrayal is loud, and not all traitors will leave the room, they just change the side of the room they’re on. The modern-day Judas will sit at your table while planning your demise.

Betrayal starts long before the final kiss.

Whenever I feel like I’m failing as a mom, I remind myself that if I was a man, they’d say I was an amazing dad. Perspective changes everything.

Copied from another post. It was too good not to share!

“There's a waiting room full of people trying to fix themselves for crimes they didn't commit.

The woman whose husband screams at her is researching communication techniques. The kid whose parent ignores them is learning emotional regulation. The employee whose boss humiliates them is working on building resilience. The friend whose "best friend" manipulates them is practicing boundary-setting.

Notice who's not in therapy? The husband. The parent. The boss. The friend doing the damage.

They don't think they need it. Why would they? From their perspective, everything's fine. You're the problem. You're too sensitive. You're overreacting. You're the one who needs to change.

And you believe them. That's the twisted genius of it. You're the one showing up to therapy at 6 PM on a Tuesday, paying money you don't have, trying to figure out why you can't make it work with someone who's actively destroying you.

The people who need therapy don't come. But the people who do come? They leave different. Stronger. Clearer about what they'll no longer tolerate.

And sometimes the only revenge is healing.
It is becoming someone who won't be their victim anymore.
It is walking away and building a life where people who refuse to look at themselves can't touch you.”

Relational aggression is a covert bullying tactic that harms people through social manipulation, exclusion, and rumors. It's often seen in schools, social groups and workplaces, aiming to damage social standing or friendships. If you notice this behavior, what steps will you take to address it?

This guy turned a gas station into a $275 million machine.

On his daily drive to work, he notices something:

Every gas station is terrible - Filthy bathrooms, terrible snacks, and poor customer service.

Yet… they’re all still making money!

“What if I just made a better one?”

He gets a bank loan, buys a small piece of land, and opens one little store.

He calls it Buc-ee’s.

A few years later, he teams up with Don Wasek—another young hustler with experience in gas stations and car washes.

Together, they expand. Store by store.

They then buy a massive plot of land off the highway and build a mega Buc-ee’s:

✅ 50+ gas pumps
✅ Restrooms cleaner than most hospitals
✅ Fresh BBQ brisket, fudge, and an entire wall of Buc-ee’s merch

That first mega-store hit $10M in its first year. 😳

Today?

54 stores.
Millions of fans.
$275 million in annual revenue.

98% of the time, without question.

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

💰 Buc-ee’s isn’t just making money at the gas ⛽️ pump.

Some locations pull in millions just from merchandise.

People don’t just fill their tanks — they walk out with T-shirts, hats, snacks, beaver plushies, even pajama pants.

And the people working there?

They’re making money 💴 too.

Entry-level employees can start at $18–$22/hour with full benefits, 401(k) match, and PTO with some store managers earning over $200,000 a year.

Beaver didn’t create something new, he upgraded something everyone else ignored.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
Just make it better, cleaner, and smoother.

As leaders, it is important to remember to not give instructions that are loaded with assumptions. We can't assume that people already know how to do "X", already know how to use "X", already know how "we do things around here". These assumptions can lead to confusion on the part of the employee and colleague and frustration on the part of the leader, because we didn't get what we "thought" we asked for.

Given this thought, I remembered a video that I saw some time ago and sought it out this morning to share with you today to further drive this point home.

Think about how a task has gone wrong because either you, or a coworker, omitted pertinent information based on the assumption that "they should have known". Feel free to share your experiences in the comments below.
