Global Dental Tourism was formed in 2012 by Arno Agman, who after 25 years in the travel industry and 15 years undergoing various dental treatments and surgeries throughout three continents, completed his search for the “perfect” clinics.
“I needed a variety of surgeries and treatments averaging $21,000 in the U.S. and I had to wait several months on a waiting list for a bone graft, two implants
, four crowns, two root canals and a deep cleaning. With no insurance nor $21,000 at hand, I had to consider alternative methods. The World Health Organization’s country ranks Costa Rica higher than the United States, New Zealand and Thailand in dental treatments. It even holds the highest ranking for all South American countries. It was the obvious choice for me. Once in Costa Rica, I spoke with a Head Surgeon who analyzed both a scan I brought from the U.S. University Medical Center and a more in-depth 3-D scan taken at New Smile. My first dental experience was a bone graft, which was painless and lasted only a few hours. The week following the surgery, I only felt a tad of discomfort and never needed to take the strong pain medication prescribed in case of extreme pain. Four months later, I returned for the two ‘one-load’ implants, which took less than an hour of painless work. My treatment was concluded with four high quality zirconium porcelain crowns. In case of a bad reaction, I spent three extra days relaxing at a B & B on a coffee plantation with a beautiful valley view, and a few nights in a small hotel with natural springs near Arenal Lake and its quiet volcano. I returned one last time for the insertion of my crowns and never had any problems. As a matter of fact, I had to return to the U.S. a day earlier for a last-minute meeting, and the surgeon accommodated my new schedule by coming earlier! For months thereafter, a Dental Manager was in touch with me by email and even called a few times from Costa Rica to ensure all was well. All the ‘horror stories’ of foreign treatments I heard prior to visiting New Smile were not true—in fact, I experienced much worse in the United States on several occasions. New Smile provided quick and painless treatment, unlike both my Virginia dentist, who extracted a tooth without recommending an immediate graft, and my Maryland dentist, who spent 40 minutes attempting to insert a crown that was the wrong size!”
