I woke up this morning to watch a local Toastmasters contest to prepare for my own Toastmasters competition next weekend (EEEK so nervous!).
One of the contestants was an immigrant from Mexico and he shared his story... his journey to the U.S. His journey was not all that different from many immigrants- he saved up and came to the U.S. to go to college. He got his master's degree and now owns his own business, married his best friend, has 2 kids and pets.
He is living his dream- the American dream.
And while his speech was inspiring, I found myself seeing the U.S. from his eyes, how he and other people view our great country from other countries. They see opportunities, a path to a better life. I think we often forget and take for granted just how lucky we are to be Americans living in our country.
My call to action for you today is to take a moment to express gratitude for the luxuries and freedoms we have. Think about your home.
✅Does it have internet?
✅Do you have furniture?
✅Do you have food in the fridge?
✅Do you have electricity?
✅Do you have running water?
If you answered yes to those questions, then you are more fortunate than roughly 490,000,000 people in the world. So, take a moment today to just say 'thank you' to whoever you pray to or draw strength from. There is much to be thankful for.
💜💛🩷And don't forget to thank yourself. You've done a lot to get where you are. 💜💛🩷
