Project Impact Highlight: Alabama
The Bridging and Aging Disabilities Network (BADN) project in Alabama focuses on local training initiatives with Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) and other community organizations.
To date, they have trained fourteen (14) ADRCs on:
- disaster preparedness
- training
- volunteer coordination
- distribution of resources through Meals on Wheels
As resources allow, the State will also be expanding training opportunities through:
- senior centers (Phase 2)
- faith-based communities (Phase 3)
The training will lead to greater awareness and engagement of Older Americans Act (OAA) grantees with the target population and would likely foster future collaboration in other areas.

For the past five years, NACDD has been leading the BADN project across this country. Seventeen (17) states have worked to bridge services and collaborate across agencies that serve people with disabilities and Older Americans all to enhance independence and opportunities for the disability and aging communities.
BADN is a Projects of National Significance (PNS). These projects are funded through grants provided by the Administration of Community Living. The projects focus on the most pressing issues affecting people with developmental disabilities and their families, creating and enhancing opportunities for these individuals to contribute to, and participate in, all facets of community life.
Over the next few weeks, NACDD will be showcasing the work of the BADN partners and what they are achieving through this important project. Partners have developed key resources, promising practices, and so much more to enhance services, resources, and supports for people with disabilities and Older Americans.
