Let's give a shout-out to Dylan Cudd-Brignac from PharmD! 📣

When a patient was ready to be discharged from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility, and inadvertently left their expensive and necessary medication at home, Dylan was determined to help.

Unfortunately, the necessary medication was not available at the rehab facility, and it was too soon for the patient to receive a refill. Dylan spent significant time on the phone with the insurance company to request an early medication refill.

Dylan successfully obtained a refill for the patient from MedStar Health's retail pharmacy. It was delivered before discharge, without delay getting the patient to rehabilitation!

Hospital President, Dr. Gregory J. Argyros, presented Dylan with a "SPIRIT Shout Out" for his compassion and determination.

Join us as we congratulate Dylan in the comments below!

For those who've experienced her warmth and compassion, it's no surprise that nurse Margarette (Maggie) Hinds was recently honored with a . 🌼

The DAISY award celebrates and recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to care for their patients.

Maggie received several nominations for this award. One was from a patient, and two were from family members.

Maggie was described as calm, attentive, and a constant source of comfort. One patient shared how Maggie's gentle presence during bloodwork immediately put them at ease, and how she consistently went above and beyond with warmth and a genuine smile.

Family members echoed the same gratitude. Maggie was a steady, compassionate presence while caring for one person's great-grandmother, advocating for her and ensuring the entire family felt informed, heard, and supported. Another recalled Maggie's grace in caring for a 91-year-old grandmother with dementia, treating her with the same love and dignity she would offer her own family.

Beyond her clinical skill and compassionate bedside manner, Maggie was also seen mentoring a new nurse, modeling the very best of what it means to lead with heart.

Her impact is lasting, and her care is unforgettable. Please join us in celebrating Maggie for this well-deserved honor! 💚

Heartfelt congratulations to our cardiac surgery team for earning the highest possible rating—three stars—from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)! ⭐⭐⭐

They were recognized in three categories of surgery: Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, Mitral Valve Repair/Replacement, and Multiprocedural Composite Measure. This significant recognition underscores our commitment to providing world-class cardiac surgical care close to home.

We also congratulate MedStar Union Memorial Hospital for receiving three stars in two categories: CABG and Multiprocedural Composite Measure. Approximately 10% of U.S. hospitals receive the highest three-star rating in any category.

When our associates see a patient in need, they immediately jump in to assist. It's how we treat people. ❤️

Over multiple appointments, Ariel Holmes, Grace McConville, Chamia Randall, Natasha Williams, and Shannon Griffiths, noticed their patient had visibly soiled and odorous clothing.

While connecting with the patient, they learned she struggled with self-care, so they assisted her in several ways, including gathering supplies and helping her change and clean up.

Dr. Gregory J. Argyros, hospital president, presented the team with a "SPIRIT Shout Out" for their compassion and dedicated care.

We're of our team and their incredible demonstration of our values.

Join us in thanking and congratulating our crossover team from orthopedics in the comments below. We'll start.

Congratulations to Deborah Henry, nurse navigator, our latest Honoree! 🎉

Deborah exemplifies what it means to be a compassionate, persistent, and proactive nurse. She recently supported a patient undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma. This patient was also managing stiff person syndrome, a condition that causes severe, constant pain.

Deborah acted quickly when she discovered the patient's pain medications had been sent to two different pharmacies. Knowing the patient relies on public transportation, she arranged to send both prescriptions to the hospital pharmacy for easy access. She also contacted the patient's insurance company to ensure everything was covered and ready.

This is just one example of how Deborah consistently goes above and beyond—not because she has to, but because it's how we treat people.

Join us in thanking Deborah for putting our patients first in the comments below.

Elana Canetti was a ray of sunshine for the daughter of a patient nearing the end of their life. ☀️ Here's why she and a colleague, Arnicia Hill, received our "Sunshine Award for Exceptional Associates." Their brightness reminds us that there can be light even during difficult times.

Elana, patient experience coordinator, jumped into action after our patient's daughter asked for help obtaining her mother's fingerprints before she passed for remembrance jewelry.

Elana remembered Arnicia Hill, her friend and patient experience colleague, is a notary and would likely have an ink pad. She contacted Arnicia, who arrived quickly at the patient's bedside. As Arnicia was helping the family gather their mom's fingerprints, our patient passed while holding Arnicia's hand.

Elana and Arnicia were there for the family while they grieved, offering comfort and compassion when they needed it most. This beautiful moment is just one example of many.

Join us in recognizing Arnicia and Elana for everything they do for our patients, families, and colleagues.

The DAISY award celebrates and recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to care for their patients.

Rachel provided more than expert clinical care to one of our patients after a heart stent procedure. Her attention to detail, anticipation of needs, and deeply personal compassion offered hope and reassurance throughout the patient's recovery.

The patient described Rachel as "tall and wise." By sharing her experience with her father's open-heart surgery, Rachel helped the patient feel understood, appreciated, and confident in their care.

Join us in thanking Rachel for treating our patients with the utmost compassion.

Why does Katherine Farquhar give back? Because of the seamless, compassionate care she received at MedStar Health following a thyroid cancer diagnosis.

Katherine received care locally while taking advantage of the power and strength of MedStar Health's regional services. Her care plan included surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, follow-up care at MedStar Washington, and ongoing support at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center from Dr. Maureen Passaro.

Katherine is now thriving! She gives back through the Women's Board, Gift Shop, and the Olney Farmers & Artists Market. Her story is a powerful reminder of how compassionate care can inspire lifelong support. 💛💙
