Today, someone in our community is grieving a devastating loss.
Someone is struggling to feel safe again after the trauma.
Someone is searching for hope in the midst of heartbreak.

At the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, we help people find their way forward.

For more than 50 years, we have provided grief counseling, trauma-informed mental health care, and compassionate support to children, adults, and families navigating life’s most painful moments. Every day, we witness something extraordinary: healing is possible.

This Give Greater DC Day, you can help make that healing possible for someone who needs it most.

Your gift- of any amount- can provide therapy, support, and a path toward hope for those facing grief and trauma.

When you give, you are telling someone: You are not alone.
Please join us today in bringing comfort, care, and healing to our community.

When crime data is manipulated, real people pay the price. Recent reporting on alleged data tampering within the Metropolitan Police Department is more than a numbers issue — it’s a trust issue. And survivors feel that breach first.

At the Wendt Center, we’re centering on what matters most: the people and families behind every statistic. Accuracy, transparency, and trust aren’t optional. They’re essential for communities healing from trauma.

Read our full statement below and stand with survivors as we push for systems that protect, not harm.

After reports of crime data manipulation, we center survivors and reaffirm the need for accuracy, transparency, and trust in public systems.

Mother’s Day can be joyful — and deeply painful. For many grieving a mother, a child, or another loved one, this day brings tender emotions to the surface.

At the Wendt Center, we’re here, so no one has to face grief alone. Through counseling, support groups, and trauma‑informed care, we walk with individuals and families through some of life’s hardest moments.

If you or someone you know is struggling this Mother’s Day, visit www.wendtcenter.org for compassionate resources and support.
You can also honor a loved one’s memory with a memorial gift that brings healing to others. Holding space for everyone for whom this day is complicated.

Congratulations to the Wendt Center's Teen Grief ensemble, who performed their original stage play, "The Domino Effect," this past weekend at the Voices of Now Festival at Arena Stage. Thank you to the ensemble's leadership, Pam Lieber, Rosie Alger, and Lisa Buch, for providing a safe space for the teens to courageously explore their grief experience and bring it to life (and to the stage) through words and dramatic movement.

Over the past year, we’ve provided 138 crisis recovery support sessions in schools, workplaces, and community spaces. Some followed the loss of beloved staff or community members. Others came in the wake of violence or sudden, traumatic events.

What we are seeing is not just more loss. It is communities struggling to carry it.

Many are already navigating stress, uncertainty, and cumulative grief. When another loss occurs, the impact is deeper and more destabilizing.

And still, we show up.

Today, we are launching the Community Support Fund to meet this moment. This fund will help expand our ability to provide immediate, trauma-informed care and grief support to schools and organizations facing sudden loss.

Not every community has the resources to access this kind of care, but every community deserves it.

Your support helps us:
• Deploy trained clinicians when support is needed
• Provide immediate stabilization after loss
• Offer guidance to leaders navigating grief
• Sustain the compassionate care that defines our work

No one should have to grieve alone.

Join us in strengthening this safety net of care.

This is what showing up and showing out is all about! Our volunteers know how to have fun, stretch themselves, and support each other, the same way they do when showing up for our campers at Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC.

Through courage and generosity, we raised over $1200 – will all proceeds going to our grief camp fund.

We are so grateful for everyone who was there, especially our own Mick Neustadt and his brother, Dan the Piano Man, for arranging this fantastic evening. Extra special thanks to our host, Sid Gold’s Request Room
