Over the past year, we’ve provided 138 crisis recovery support sessions in schools, workplaces, and community spaces. Some followed the loss of beloved staff or community members. Others came in the wake of violence or sudden, traumatic events.

What we are seeing is not just more loss. It is communities struggling to carry it.

Many are already navigating stress, uncertainty, and cumulative grief. When another loss occurs, the impact is deeper and more destabilizing.

And still, we show up.

Today, we are launching the Community Support Fund to meet this moment. This fund will help expand our ability to provide immediate, trauma-informed care and grief support to schools and organizations facing sudden loss.

Not every community has the resources to access this kind of care, but every community deserves it.

Your support helps us:
• Deploy trained clinicians when support is needed
• Provide immediate stabilization after loss
• Offer guidance to leaders navigating grief
• Sustain the compassionate care that defines our work

No one should have to grieve alone.

Join us in strengthening this safety net of care.

This is what showing up and showing out is all about! Our volunteers know how to have fun, stretch themselves, and support each other, the same way they do when showing up for our campers at Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC.

Through courage and generosity, we raised over $1200 – will all proceeds going to our grief camp fund.

We are so grateful for everyone who was there, especially our own Mick Neustadt and his brother, Dan the Piano Man, for arranging this fantastic evening. Extra special thanks to our host, Sid Gold’s Request Room

Grief can feel even heavier when you are also caring for a child. Supporting children while navigating your own grief can be overwhelming, and caregivers often need care and support too.

The Wendt Center for Loss and Healing is offering two workshops in April designed specifically for caregivers who are supporting grieving children. These workshops provide a compassionate space to pause, reflect, and connect with others who understand the challenges of caring for children while coping with loss.

Participants will:
• Learn coping strategies for supporting grieving children while navigating their own grief
• Engage in a guided expressive art activity
• Share in a safe and supportive space
• Connect with other caregivers raising or supporting grieving children

Grief can be emotionally exhausting and physically taxing. Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is simply pause.

In this short video, Mick Neustadt, grief and trauma therapist at the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, guides a brief mindfulness practice to help you reconnect with your body and your breath. Taking just a few minutes to slow down, notice your breath, and check in with yourself can help ground the nervous system and create space for whatever emotions may arise.

Whether you are having a difficult day or simply need a moment to reset, this simple practice can help bring you back to the present moment.
Take two minutes today to pause, breathe, and check in with yourself.

What might you be needing right now?

Grief does not mean childhood has to pause.

At our camp, we hold space for both the sadness and the smiles, the tears and the laughter of young people remembering and honoring loved ones who have died.

Since 1999, Wendt Center has offered DC area youth ages 6 to 17 a camp experience where they can explore grief through creative workshops and grief groups, build friendships with other young people who truly get it, learn and strengthen healthy coping strategies, and have fun in a supportive community.

💙 Applications for Camp 2026 are now open. Space is limited.
