DuPont Farmers Market, trying these sketches of scenes I saw, from memory. A beautiful summery day and you could tell that everyone was so happy to have a chance to wear their summer clothes again. We visit some stands every Sunday, the salad stand, the nut man. All so friendly and kind. I am taking a self study class with Lynda Barry from her book “Making Comics” and so, trying to see and remember better. It’s fun. I’m learning a lot. I have a long way to go.

50 States ride with my buddy, Mary. Ray and I dropped Peter off earlier for the actual 60 mile 50 states ride (street names in DC with all 50 states.) We did ten miles.

These elf-like maidens showed up in my intuitive journal today and yesterday. Playful and joyful. A lot of times, what shows up in these pages is pretty dark. I guess in these dark times, what was needed is something lighter.

This is my daily practice-creating an intuitive painting in an altered book. The book this time, since October of last year, is Scenic Art for the Theatre: History, Tools and Techniques. Someone left it in the sink area on my floor of the Jackson Art Center. This one looks like it could be a tarot card. Sometimes I create from marks I had made on a previous day. Sometimes I use collage. And sometimes I react to imagery that was already there. On this page-there was already the crowned guy. The woman was a collage. What does this mean? I don’t know yet. Something about an invitation. An invitation on two levels-inner and outer.

A new (old) doll. I had finished her in neutral colors but this week decided to add the oranges. She’s about receiving inspiration from above. She’s about how creative ideas come through us. Almost but not quite finished.

I love the signs at this stand at the DuPont Circle farmers market. And the bounty of zinnia from this stand. I’ll get the name next week. Going to this market every Sunday morning is a real mood boost-so needed these days.
