Okay, you probably still saw me at a game, even if it wasn’t Cancer Awareness Day.

Did you know the Twins have partnered with the for 10 years, with proceeds from ticket sales being donated to ACS?

An estimated more than 2.1 million Americans will hear the words “you have cancer” in 2026. In 2015, I heard those words for the first time. This year, it was my mom’s turn.

Baseball has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I interned at Target Field shortly after my first cancer diagnosis, while completing my Master’s program in Sport Management.

Since then, I’ve attended nearly every Cancer Awareness Day at Target Field. I can’t imagine anything more fitting than fighting cancer while root, root, rooting for the home team.

Look for me behind the 3rd baseline! I’ll be the one with a vegan brat in one hand and sunscreen in the other.

Even better, grab your own ticket and join me in striking out cancer: https://www.mlb.com/twins/tickets/specials/cancer-awareness

a girl’s guide to getting away

my mom had surgery while i was in DC, so when a cabin she’s been wanting to stay at opened up over my spring break, we decided to book it

not only did it line up with my birthday, but she was also wanting to have some family time before her treatment starts at the end of the month

in true sloaney fashion, she brought multiple fox stuffies to match the “sleeping fox” name of our cabin

we read books (well, sloane and i did), finished a 500 piece puzzle, did some watercolor painting, and definitely found some creepy haunted dolls

it was the perfect balance of exploring small towns and holing up in a cozy cabin

not only that, but we already booked our next family trip before we left: see you at red rocks !

back to the real world tomorrow: at least for a few weeks

next up: portland, oregon in april!

the quote and photo deserved a permanent place in my feed

did i sneak this hoodie onto the bus for this photo? yes

did i have to strip to a tank top in the snow to change into it? also yes

did i miss all the melahomie group photos to get this photo? still yes

was it worth it? helllllllllll yes

i will never stop advocating for the country i love and believe in

from one capitol to the other

after spending four days in washington, dc, i arrived back in minnesota just in time for ’s cancer action day!

it was an honor to kick off the day, welcoming our incredible team of advocates here in minnesota and thanking them for spending their day helping us fight cancer

led a panel for our volunteer team about connecting our stories to our ask. it was great reconnecting with nancy and hearing her story move others. i also loved meeting christi who shares the story of her husband and daughter in such a powerful way.

so many are intimidated by speaking to lawmakers because they think they need to be experts on the policy when we only need to be experts on our own stories

our stories humanize the policy and help illustrate the impact of the ask to our lawmakers

this year’s ask?

no-cost cancer screenings for minnesotans

even the smallest cost can be a financial barrier to life-saving cancer screenings, something i know all too well

as a four-time survivor, i also know how important access to screenings, prevention and early detection are

thank you to senator jordan rasmusson, representative tom murphy, senator zach duckworth, majority leader murphy’s office, and senator sandy pappas for taking the time to meet with us yesterday on this important issue

lastly, thank you britta for your leadership and for always organizing such a great cancer action day

advocacy days was extra personal this year

yesterday, as we were learning more about the issues we would be speaking to our lawmakers about today, my mom was undergoing surgery

as many of you know, my mom was diagnosed with choroidal melanoma (a form of ocular melanoma) about two months ago

after multiple trips to mayo clinic in rochester for testing and consultations, that surgery marked the first step toward treatment

the surgery was to put metal fiducial markers on her eye to help pinpoint the location of the tumor for greater accuracy

her tumor is located very close to her retina and her optical nerve so she will begin proton radiation at the end of the month

her “practice run” when she’ll have her radiation mask made is scheduled for st. patrick’s day, which we are taking as a good sign 🍀

ocular melanoma is just one of the rare cancers that gets dedicated research funds through the melanoma research program (MRP) within the congressionally directed medical research program (CDMRP)

it was am emotional day for me yesterday, talking about rare melanomas and cancer research funding, as my own mom prepped for surgery

i wouldn’t wish this disease on anyone but i’m grateful to have the unique perspective to support her through it

she also has an incredible group of melahomies behind her, every step of the way

my mom is one of the strongest people i know and i am so thankful to for providing this opportunity to share my story, and now my mom’s, with our lawmakers

i also can’t thank enough for helping to protect the $40 million for the MRP when we were at significant risk of huge funding cuts for life-saving melanoma research

thank you to everyone who came out on thursday to help celebrate my 4 years of survivorship and kick off lights of hope!

aminn, congratulations TODAY on officially being an 8 YEAR survivor! 💜 i am so proud to know you, lucky to consider you a friend, and honored to share a cancerversary month with you!

cancer sucks. we lose parts of ourself. we lose people we love to it. it changes us forever.

but every day of survivorship also deserves to be celebrated.

i left barrel theory thursday with so much gratitude, a renewed sense of purpose in why i advocate, and a stack of bags to bring to DC with me this september 🥰

if you couldn’t make it thursday and would like to have me bring a Lights of Hope bag to DC this fall in honor of someone you know, send me a message or copy the link to donate: https://acscan.donordrive.com/participants/jennschultz

help me celebrate 4 years CANCER FREE!

my actual 4 year cancerversary is next saturday (yes, it’s on valentine’s day!)

but i can be a bit of an overachiever (like getting cancer 3 times in 11 months during a pandemic)

so this year, to celebrate another year cancer free, i want to give back to the ACS CAN community that helped give me a voice after cancer and is working tirelessly to end cancer as we know it, for everyone

please join me to celebrate on feb 26 at to:
• raise a glass to kicking cancer’s ass (4times)
• decorate a lights of hope bag for someone you know
• play a little bingo (in support of another great cause)

barrel theory is where i celebrated my first year cancer free in 2023 and i can’t wait to bring my favorite people back together in one of my favorite places

i’ll be there from 4-close so stop by anytime 🍻

i HOPE to see you there! (pun intended)

this world cancer day hits different

as a 4x cancer survivor, it’s something i’ve always hoped nobody i loved would ever have to go through

it’s why the fear of waiting for my sister’s biopsy results felt as tangible as my own

it’s why losing my cousin brooke after ovarian cancer has changed my outlook on life and being a parent

and it’s why my mom’s cancer diagnosis a few weeks ago has hit so hard

yesterday, she made the comment that things i’ve shared with her in the past make sense now

you can’t really understand until you’ve been through it

and that’s something i hoped she’d never know

it’s the same thing that bonds me to so many other patients, survivors, and advocates i’ve met over the last few years

those connections give me hope on the hardest days

but the losses hit that much deeper in this community

this year’s world cancer day these is “united by unique” - a reminder that we are all individuals who deserve personalized, patient-centered care

every experience is unique but our diverse stories unite us in our efforts to improve cancer treatment and outcomes

together, we can:
• engage people and build community
• change cancer standards of care
• make healthcare more equitable and accessible
• hold the system accountable for cancer care reform

and yes, i can make even a taylor swift breakup song cancer-related
