For Eye Donation Month, AltruVision facilitated a very important meeting during a workshop at a clay studio, where volunteers make butterflies for transplant families as a token representing the new life their loved one gave to another via transplantation.

They united a grateful transplant recipient with her donor's family, giving the two sides an opportunity to meet, connect, and bond.

Watch this emotional and touching story spotlighting the power of eye donation. You too can be an Everyday Hero by giving the gift of sight - register at: RegisterMe.org

Two families met in person for the first time in Philadelphia following a cornea transplant.

Happy Veterans Day!

Today, and all year-long we show our insufficient gratitude to those who have served our country - true Everyday Heroes deserving of much more recognition than they receive.

In the EBAA community, we have a considerable number of Veterans in eye banking working to hashtag worldwide. We also have many Veteran donors who, beyond service to country, also serve others by giving the gift of sight. Here are some of their stories.

As we continue observing Eye Donation Month, we remind you of the unique element of eye donation, which is that nearly anyone can be a donor. Blood type, vision quality, age, and other qualifiers are non-factors.

Spread the word to others that they can be an "Everyday Hero" by registering to give the gift of sight at RegisterMe.org.

Start the first full weekend of Eye Donation Month with this lovely story from Southern Eye Bank, part of Advancing Sight Network.

An emotional donor father recalls taking his 16-year-old daughter, Ramsey, to the DMV for her first driver's license, when she told him her decision to be an eye, organ, and tissue donor. Sadly, two years later, after a tragic car accident, that same father made Ramsey's decision was followed, and she became a cornea donor hero.

This generous donation gave the gift of sight to a man suffering from keratoconus. Recently, the donor family and recipient met in person and formed a deep bond. Now, they are all committed to preserving Ramsey's legacy as an "Everyday Hero", spreading awareness about eye donation, cornea, transplantation, and donor registration.

November is Eye Donation Month, and we want to remind you that nearly anyone can be an "Everyday Hero" by registering as a donor and giving the gift of sight.

Since our formation in 1961, EBAA member eye banks have provided tissue for nearly 2.5 million life-transforming corneal transplants. Right now, there are an estimated 12 million people around the world suffering from cornea blindness that could be treated with a cornea transplant - so registration is critical!

We thank all the eye bankers who work every day to worldwide - they are true "Everyday Heroes"!

Enjoy your spooky day!

And remember, protect your eyes this Halloween! Decorative lenses can be dangerous and cause permanent damage if not prescribed by an eye specialist.

Have you watched the Emmy-winning drama, "The Pitt" yet?

Well, those who have are having important conversations about donation and other end-of-life decisions.

This is according to a study from the University of Southern California's Norman Lear Center. Of a group of nearly 1,5000 "The Pitt" viewers, 26.9% say they are more likely to seek out organ donation information after watching the show, and 17.2% say they shared the information with others.

From "Variety," 'The study helpfully noted that the impact was especially great with Black audiences - an important distinction as Black patients are often overrepresented on transplant waiting lists and underrepresented with donors.'

The Pitt has been renewed for a second season. We hope it continues to spread the message of the importance of eye, organ, and tissue donation!

Eye Donation Month officially begins this Saturday, November 1st.

As we prepare to honor and celebrate the "Everyday Heroes" who make the gift of sight possible, let's look back on some of the stories from past Eye Donation Months.

Last year, we met Josie, an Army Veteran. She shared the story of her husband Julian - also an Army Vet, and how conversations they'd had about registering as donors made it easy to honor his decision to donate his corneas and other organs when he passed. Julian's life was one of service, and that service continues as his corneas now provide sight for two other individuals.

Thank you to Advancing Sight Network for introducing us to Josie and hosting us for this video shoot.
