August is National Immunization Awareness Month!

This is a great time to highlight the importance of vaccines in protecting you and your loved ones at every stage of life.

Trusted medical organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) all recommend vaccines during pregnancy to help protect both parent and baby.

RHJ's Amanda Onyewuenyi, MD, MPH, contributed her expertise to this new Everyday Health article that explores how Black women are affected differently by endometrial cancer, and what life-saving steps they can take, including advocating for themselves.

If you feel brushed off or have more questions, Onyewuenyi suggests using words like “concerned,” “uncomfortable,” or “unsafe” to describe your feelings. These phrases can help providers pause, listen, and take your concerns seriously. Make sure your healthcare provider makes you feel heard.

RHJ has partnered with Pacify to offer in-person childbirth education courses each month at its Falls Church, VA, location. The courses, designed and taught by Pacify’s certified doulas and childbirth educators, are designed to provide families with the most current evidence-based information, empowering them to make educated and informed decisions for their births.

The classes are scheduled over the weekend and are structured so that expecting families can take either the one-day comprehensive education course or one-day newborn care & infant CPR course, or bundle both. Courses will begin in September 2025, with registration limited to six families per session.
