Food isn’t just fuel, it’s part of our lives, our memories, and our relationships.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget how much our mental health influences what, when, and how we eat. Stress, emotions, sleep, and energy levels can all affect appetite, cravings, digestion, and even motivation to cook or eat.

Struggling with these changes doesn’t mean you’re “doing it wrong.” They’re normal responses, not failures. Supporting your health means looking at the bigger picture; emotions, lifestyle, access to food, and relationships with eating, not just what’s on your plate.

Do you ever feel stuck in a cycle of restricting certain foods, only to overeat later? Or notice that thoughts about food and body image leave you feeling anxious or overwhelmed?

You’re not alone, and these experiences are exactly what an anti-diet approach can help with. Working with a dietitian who focuses on breaking free from diet culture isn’t about “perfect eating.” It’s about uderstanding your body’s cues for hunger and fullness, finding balance without fear or guilt around food, and building a healthier, more peaceful relationship with eating.

If any of this sounds familiar, it may be time to explore support that helps you feel more confident and less stressed around food.

If you’ve ever dealt with digestive discomfort, you know how frustrating it can be. When symptoms show up, it’s easy to feel like you need to start cutting foods out or following strict rules to try to “fix” your digestion.

But supporting your gut often isn’t about restriction.

In many cases, digestion responds better to consistency, variety, and slowing down enough to listen to your body. Small habits, like eating regularly, taking time with meals, and managing stress, can make a meaningful difference over time.

Your digestive system is also closely connected with the rest of your body. Stress, routines, sleep, and eating patterns can all play a role in how your gut feels day to day.

If you struggle with digestive symptoms, you’re not alone. Sometimes the most supportive approach isn’t doing more rules, it’s building habits that help your body feel more regulated and supported.

Have you ever noticed that when life gets stressful, your eating patterns can feel completely different?

Maybe you realize halfway through the day that you forgot to eat. Maybe you feel hungrier than usual, or find yourself reaching for quick energy foods. Sometimes stress can even make it harder to notice when you’re full or cause digestive changes.

This happens because stress affects the systems in our body that regulate hunger, fullness, and digestion. Your body isn’t “doing it wrong”, it’s responding to what’s going on around you. If your hunger cues feel different during stressful seasons, you’re not alone, and it’s something that can be worked through with the right support. 💚

When digestive symptoms show up, it’s really common to start questioning everything you’re eating. You might wonder if you should cut out certain foods, avoid whole food groups, or follow strict rules to try to feel better.

A lot of people with IBS have been there.

But digestive symptoms are rarely caused by just one food. Things like stress, gut sensitivity, eating patterns, and individual triggers can all play a role. That’s why managing IBS often looks less like finding a “perfect” diet and more like learning about your own body over time.

Instead of restriction, the focus can shift to curiosity, noticing patterns, understanding what helps your symptoms, and building an approach to eating that supports both your digestive health and your relationship with food.

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

IBS is a common gastrointestinal condition that affects millions of people. It can cause symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, or a mix of both. Symptoms and triggers can vary from person to person, which is why support often needs to be individualized.

While IBS doesn’t cause permanent damage to the digestive tract, it can have an impact on day to day activities and quality of life.

Nutrition can be an important part of managing symptoms. Working with the guidance of a registered dietitian, in addition to your GI doctor and other providers, may help identify foods that trigger symptoms while still supporting balanced nutrition.

At Tepper Nutrition, our dietitians work with clients to better understand their bodies, explore nutrition strategies, and build sustainable habits that support digestive health, without unnecessary restriction.

If you’re navigating IBS, you don’t have to do it alone!
