We apologize for the delay in this response. Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC closed in 2011. The military treatment facility integrated with National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD to form Walter Reed National Military Center when WRAMC was closed.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity to our recovering service members. We stopped receiving unsolicited holiday cards long before the closure. The American Red Cross began coordinating the holiday card effort because of the overwhelming volume of cards sent by caring individuals like you.

Unfortunately, cards mailed to the 6900 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC address will likely be returned to you.

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center closed on 15 September 2011 as a result of Base Realignment and Closure. Health services transferred to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda. -- Final patients scheduled to depart Walter Reed this Saturday --
The last remaining inpatients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center will be transferred by ambulance to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda on Saturday morning, August 27. Patient transfers are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and continue through the morning until the last patient is received at Bethesda, which is estimated to occur by 10 a.m. This is a change from the original plan due to the approaching hurricane. Hurricane Irene has turned north-northwest and remains a dangerous Category 3 hurricane. At midday, the core of Irene was nearing Abaco Island in the Northwest Bahamas with 115 mph sustained winds. Some strengthening is expected and Irene could approach Category 4 status by tomrorow. The forecast track takes the core of the hurricane over the Northest Bahamas today and well to the east of Florida tonight and early tomorrow...and then approach the North Carolina coast on Saturday. Watches are in effect for South and North Carolina. Residents in the Northeast and New England should closely monitor the progress of Irene.
