What Is Angioplasty?
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed or blocked heart arteries and restore healthy blood flow to the heart.
How it works:
• A thin tube (catheter) is guided through a blood vessel to the heart
• A small balloon is inflated to open the blockage
• In many cases, a stent (tiny mesh tube) is placed to keep the artery open
Why it’s done:
✔ Relieves chest pain (angina)
✔ Improves blood flow to the heart
✔ Reduces symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue
✔ Can help prevent heart attacks
What patients should know:
• No open-heart surgery
• Short recovery time
• Often done with light sedation
• Most patients return to normal activities quickly
Your heart works hard for you—take care of it.
If you have symptoms or risk factors for heart disease, early evaluation can make all the difference.
