What’s the difference between a Pap test and a pelvic exam? We get this question a lot!

Most healthy women only need a Pap smear every 3 to 5 years, but a yearly pelvic exam is still recommended - even if you’ve had a hysterectomy or gone through menopause! Yay, right?! 😄

The pelvic exam allows your provider to look & feel for signs of cancers (uterine, ovarian, vaginal, cervical, and even some skin cancers), rule out infections, and identify skin changes like lichen sclerosus and postmenopausal changes. If you haven’t had an exam in the past year, now is a great time to schedule your wellness pelvic exam. 812-254-2400

✨ Exciting News! Please Help Us Welcome Our New Nurse Practitioner! ✨

We are thrilled to announce Alayna Summers, NP-C is now seeing patients as our new Nurse Practitioner! Many of our patients already know and love her—she has been a valued employee in our practice since 2017, providing compassionate, high-quality care every day.

A graduate of Washington High School, Alayna began working at Heartland OB/GYN while still in high school. She graduated from Vincennes University in 2019 and transitioned to caring for our patients as a Registered Nurse. In August 2025, she graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Master of Science in Nursing. She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

As a Nurse Practitioner, Alayna, will now be seeing women of all ages for a full range of obstetric and gynecological care. Her years of experience within our practice, combined with her dedication to women’s health, make her a wonderful asset to Heartland OB/GYN.

Alayna & her husband, Devon, have one son named Ashton. They enjoy spending time outdoors with their 3 dogs, taking walks, and boating with friends & family.

After over two decades of dedicated service, we announce the retirement of a remarkable physician.

Dr. Jonathan Frances has been a trusted presence in our small community and surrounding areas, caring for generations of families with skill, compassion, and commitment. Dr. Frances helped welcome thousands of babies into the world, hitting his 5000th delivery at Daviess Community Hospital back in 2021. He has also been a respected surgeon, providing patients with confidence and comfort in some of their most critical times.

As Dr. Frances begins this well-earned retirement, we are grateful for the 23 years of excellent care he provided. Please join us in thanking him and wishing him well in this next chapter.
