Happy National Rural Health Day!

Rural communities are built on connection, resilience, and a deep commitment to caring for one another — and today, we honor all who make rural health strong.

At Washington County Hospital and Clinics, our story began with a bold step:

In 1912, Washington County Hospital opened as the first rural county hospital in the United States, marking a turning point in access to healthcare for rural communities. That pioneering spirit continues to shape who we are today.

As we celebrate National Rural Health Day, we recognize the Power of Rural in every patient we serve, every partnership we foster, and every effort to ensure high-quality care close to home. Whether it’s expanding services, strengthening community wellness, or advancing the future of rural healthcare, WCHC is proud to stand with and for our community.

Did you know:
-About 11% of U.S. adults are living with diabetes.
-Nearly 38% of U.S. adults have prediabetes.
-And more than 20% of those with diabetes may not even know it yet.
These numbers highlight the urgency of early detection and education.

Here at WCHC, our Diabetes Education Program is certified by the American Diabetes Association — and our team is dedicated to supporting you every step of the way.

📆 Don’t forget: on the first Thursday of every month, we host our FREE Diabetes Coffee Club—an opportunity to get insights, share experiences, and join a community of people managing diabetes or pre-diabetes, aiming for balance and better health.

Let’s use this month and today’s global spotlight to commit to better awareness, better care, and better outcomes. Together, we can make a difference.
