March is National Athletic Training Month. JET Physical Therapy appreciates the commitment our athletic trainers provide to the area athletes and high school athletic programs. Matt Flotterud is our full time athletic trainer who can be seen all across southeast Iowa at high school athletic events. Matt has done a tremendous job growing our athletic training services over the past 6 years. We are also grateful to our part-time athletic trainers, Shawna Sieren and Megan Reed, who help with our services beyond their full time jobs. Athletic trainers are part of the team that provides services to our area athletes and we thank them for all they do.

Thanks to Hayley and Jenny for representing JET at the area high school career fair yesterday. We need to educate high school students on the rewarding careers in physical therapy and athletic training.

A business is only as good as the employees who work there. Jennifer and I are grateful to all our current and past staff members. We have been blessed with amazing people who care about the patients they serve. As National Physical Therapy Month wraps up this week, we want to say thank you to our current staff for all they do for JET.

Physical therapy plays such a critical role in improving an individuals balance. PT can also help to prevent a loss of balance and improve small declines in balance to prevent falls. Balance training often involves patients performing exercises that simulate daily situations that makes an individual uncomfortable about their balance. These situations are not reckless but rather supervised to prevent falls. As patient's balance improves the level of balance training and daily situations are progressed until a patient reaches a higher and safer level of function. It's rewarding to see a patient's confidence improve the right balance training program.

Physical therapy can address lesser known conditions. PT is most known for treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. However, we have staff members trained to address dizziness/vertigo, pelvic floor urinary incontinence and pediatric developmental conditions.

The most common conditions we treat are related to orthopedic pain and injuries. This includes muscle, bone, tendon, ligament and bone tissue problems. Post-surgery rehab is a big portion of our patients.
