When a finger bone is fractured it can result in improper alignment of the entire hand. In addition, if left untreated, a fractured finger can remain painful and stiff for a long time. In the normal hand, the bones all line up precisely. This allows for manual dexterity and precise movement with the thumb and fingers. A fractured finger is usually considered a minor incident, however without the right treatment and early evaluation, it can cause serious problems.
A study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research used imaging tests to reveal that physical activity levels may impact adolescents' and young adults' leg alignment during development.

Muscle Strains usually occur when an already stretched muscle is suddenly forced to contract and shorten. This sudden contraction, causes the muscle fibers to tear and injure. The possibility of a muscle strain increases significantly if there has been a previous injury to the same area. Therefore, it is important to warm up properly before exercising and to gradually increase your workload as doing too much too soon can cause a muscle strain too. Muscle strains are categorized as mild, moderate, or severe depending on the extent of the injury.
Strains and Sprains
A sprain is stretching or tearing of a ligament, the tissues that connect bones to other bones. Sprains will cause pain at or around the joint involved.
A strain is a stretching or tearing of a muscle or tendon. Tendons connect muscles to bones. Strains will cause pain and stiffness in the involved muscle or tendon.

Degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” is characterized by progressive wearing away of the cartilage of the joint. As the protective cartilage is worn away by shoulder arthritis, bare bone is exposed within the joint. Shoulder arthritis can also occur in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic condition that causes an inflammation of the lining of a joint. This inflammation can, over time, invade and destroy the cartilage and bone. If you have been experiencing pain in your shoulder it's time to get it checked out.

Each year in the U.S., more than 500,000 people sustain tears in their meniscus, a piece of cartilage in the knee that cushions and stabilizes the joint. The tears often require invasive surgeries that frequently do not achieve the desired outcome.

Advanced Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation (AOR) has served the tri-county area for more than 30 years. AOR was started in Washington, PA and has expanded to Greene County (Waynesburg), South Hills (McMurray and Pittsburgh), and the Mon Valley (Charleroi). This broad geographic area allows us to give our patients more options and convenience to fit their busy schedules. We do our best to have realistic appointment times which usually minimizes the time spent in the waiting room and also allows us to spend more time with each patient.
Each year, each AOR Physicians spend their own time evaluating and learning the newest techniques available. This gives your surgeon many different options to custom fit a plan for you. Some of these recent advances include the minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements, and arthroscopic. Each patient is different and these techniques do not apply to everyone, so you and your doctor will discuss them individually.
AOR has always been a proud supporter of local teams and events. We sponsor the Powerade Wrestling Classic, Tri-County Football Classic and the Pony League World Series. AOR has also long been a sponsor of numerous high school and collegiate sports broadcasts, both on the radio and the internet. These broadcasts include: “Presidents Football Preview,” heard prior to kickoff of every Washington and Jefferson College football game, plus key high school regular season and playoff games in football, basketball and wrestling. It is our way of giving back to the communities that have supported us for so long.
Each AOR office is equipped with x-ray, most offices have digital technology, where we are able to take all of the x-rays you will need during your visit. We are also able to view your X-Rays from outside hospitals on-line in most cases. If another radiology test is ordered (MRI, CT, Bone Scan) our office staff schedules that appointment with the facility before you leave. Most of these can be done within one week’s time and in many cases within 24-48 hours.
We know that seeing a doctor can be a stressful experience. We strive to make your office visit with us as pleasant and informative as possible, while maintaining the highest level of specialized orthopaedic care.
