Wash your hands regularly, mask up if needed, do NOT send your child to school or daycare sick, if you are sick stay home and use disinfectant wipes to clean surfaces. This flu strain is something to take very seriously. Some healthcare professionals are calling it a super flu. School is about to be back in on our local level. Georgia remains at a very high level for illness. You may still take a flu shot because it will help protect against the strains it was designed for. But know this new strain is not covered in it. Still take a flu shot if you haven’t to err on the side of caution. The death toll of this flu is rising and it appears to be hitting the younger harder. Hospitalizations are up and so are ER, urgent care and doctors office visits. If you are concerned about sending your child to school consider speaking with the proper school authorities to obtain work from home permission until this passes. We are here for you and seeing cases daily.

The flu is getting nasty right now, with many referring to it as a "super flu" outbreak. It is causing serious illness right now across the country, and this map can help you get an idea of the activity level in each state.

This is definitely something to take seriously, especially if you or a loved one is at high risk, such as children, elderly, and those with compromised immune symptoms.

You can buy inexpensive test kits at your local pharmacy, Walmart, and other stores to test, or you can visit your healthcare provider or local urgent care.

Symptoms can be quite strong with this flu, including severe body aches, persistent fevers (101-103 F+), sore throat, cough, congestion, runny nose, sneezing, headache, muffled hearing sensation, GI upset (nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea), and more.

Make sure you drink plenty of fluids (electrolyte drinks, soups, popsicles, water, etc). Pain relievers/fever reducers such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen may provide some relief (consult with your healthcare provider).

NOTE: Avoid aspirin or Pepto-Bismol when you have the flu or other viral illness, especially in children or teens due to the risk of developing Reye's Syndrome.

Also, antivirals such as Tamiflu must generally be started within 48 hours of symptoms for them to work fully, which is important to know if you are at high risk.

Please be safe!!

Our Story

When Nurse Practitioner Bruce Bailey graduated in January 2017 with his Masters in Nursing, he longed to serve the people of this community. He became a board certified Nurse Practitioner and was offered jobs from several companies. He told each one that his desire would be to bring a practice to Washington where he could not only serve locally, but help build up healthcare in our area and give patients other much needed choices.

Urgent MD was ON Board and willing to open a practice here so the journey began. On January 15, 2018 Urgent MD Washington opened its doors and the rest is history. MedNow Urgent Care of Augusta and Urgent MD companies joined forces and are continuing to grow.

In 2019 Urgent MD Washington welcomed the addition of another local face, Nurse Practitioner Heather Hammond. Heather became licensed as an NP in Georgia this same year and like Bruce had the desire to serve locally. She is in the office here every Monday and serves other areas the rest of the week. As the company continues to grow and our numbers continue to rise we certainly hope we can have her here more often in the near future.

With Dr. Kelli Carter being the practicing physician of several locations, Bruce and Heather both work closely with her to ensure each and every patient receives the best care that can be offered. This isn’t just home for them, this is on their hearts to bring to this community the best medical care along with compassion and knowledge.
