Congrats to general surgeon Dr. Thomas Riechers, this year’s Physician of the Year for Mercy Washington. His nomination read: “When the idea of this award was proposed, this doctor was the first person that came to mind. He is the best example of a Mercy physician. He continuously demonstrates Mercy Values, as well as competence, compassion, collegiality and positivity. Even when levying fair criticism, he does so with humility and with a focus on what is best for the patient first and Mercy second. His objective, even-handed and level-headed approach is often a calming force even within tense scenarios. His focus is always on what is best for the patient and how Mercy can best serve the community."
Mercy Washington and its Culture, Wellness & Mission Committee present annual awards honoring physician and provider leadership. The honorees uphold the mission of the organization and exemplify the Mercy values of Justice, Dignity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship. In addition, the following criteria will have been met:

️⚕️Treats colleagues, patients and caregivers with respect
🥼Serves as a role model, both personally and professionally
⚕️ Enhances the quality of the community through their contributions
🥼Demonstrates leadership with their colleagues and staff
⚕️ Seeks opportunities to improve the care processes within the organization
🥼Honoree must have served on the active staff of Mercy Washington for at least five years
