Agape Attends the 2026 NC DHHS Vaccines for Children Conference

Last week, members of the Agape Health Services team attended the 2026 North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) Vaccines for Children (VFC) Conference in Greensboro. This conference provided important updates on new immunization recommendations, best practices, and required training for primary and back-up VFC coordinators.

Continuing education and collaboration like this ensures our team stays up to date with the latest vaccine guidance so we can continue providing safe, effective, and evidence-based care to the communities we serve.

We are proud to have the following Agape team members representing our organization:

🩵 March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers — yet many people delay screening or overlook early warning signs.

Knowing the symptoms can make a life-saving difference. Changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, persistent abdominal discomfort, unexplained weight loss, or ongoing fatigue should never be ignored.

The good news is that screening can detect precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer, and when caught early, colorectal cancer is highly treatable.

For most adults, screening is recommended beginning at age 45, or earlier if you have certain risk factors or a family history.

🩺 Don’t ignore symptoms. Talk to your provider about screening.
Your health matters — and early detection saves lives.

🩵 March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers with routine screening?

Screening can detect precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer — and when caught early, colorectal cancer is highly treatable.

Many people have no symptoms in the early stages, which is why routine screening is so important.

You may be eligible for screening starting at age 45, or earlier if you have certain risk factors or a family history.

✨ Prevention starts with awareness.

🩺 Talk to your provider about colorectal cancer screening and which option is right for you.

Early detection saves lives.

Protect 340B. Protect Patient Access.

Recently, Agape joined 60 North Carolina Community Health Center leaders in Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress — including Greg Murphy (represented by Legislative Director McLean Piner) and Don Davis — to advocate for the protection of the 340B program.

We urged support for H.R. 7391, the Community Health Center Drug Pricing Protection Act.

This bipartisan bill would protect Community Health Centers from a harmful rebate model that would require paying full price for medications upfront and waiting for reimbursement — creating financial strain and threatening access to care.

Without action:

Health centers could face serious cash flow challenges

Administrative burdens would increase

Patients could lose reliable access to affordable medications

For rural and underserved communities across North Carolina, 340B savings directly support dental care, behavioral health services, school-based programs, and sliding-fee pharmacy access.

This is about protecting patient care — not pharmaceutical profits.

📢 Take Action:

Contact your U.S. House Representative and urge them to co-sponsor H.R. 7391.

When community health leaders traveled to Capitol Hill, they spoke for their patients. Now we need our communities to help turn those conversations into commitment.

Protect 340B. Protect access. Protect our communities. 🏛️🫀

🫀 Tai Chi for Heart Health

Strong hearts aren’t built overnight — they’re supported through consistent, intentional movement.

Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact practice that combines slow, flowing movements with breath awareness and focus. Research has shown that Tai Chi may help:

• Support healthy blood pressure
• Improve circulation
• Reduce stress levels
• Enhance balance and overall endurance
• Promote overall cardiovascular wellness

Because it’s adaptable and easy on the joints, Tai Chi is accessible for many ages and fitness levels. It’s a powerful reminder that heart health doesn’t require intensity — it requires consistency.

✨ Movement can be both calming and strengthening.

Stay tuned for our upcoming community Tai Chi class offerings — we’re excited to share more details soon.

Your heart works hard for you every day. Gentle movement is one meaningful way to give back to it. 🧘‍♀️💙

Cardiovascular Risk Screening 🫀

Prevention is Powerful

Many cardiovascular risk factors develop silently — without symptoms.

That’s why regular screenings matter.

🩺 Cardiovascular risk screening may include:

Blood pressure checks

Cholesterol screening

Review of personal and family history

Lifestyle and preventive care guidance

✨ Screening isn’t about fear.
It’s about awareness, early action, and protecting your future health.

📅 Talk to your provider about cardiovascular screening during your next visit.

Family Heart Health ❤️‍👨‍👩‍👧

Your Heart Story Matters

Heart health isn’t just personal — it’s often family history.

If heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or stroke run in your family, your risk may be higher — even if you feel healthy now.

Knowing your family history helps your provider:

Assess cardiovascular risk

Recommend appropriate screenings

Create a preventive care plan tailored to you

💙 Knowing your family history is a powerful form of prevention.

If you’re unsure, your Annual Wellness Visit is a great place to start the conversation.

🌟 Celebrating Leadership & Impact at Agape Health Services 🌟

We are proud to share that Gwendolyn Gilbert, Chief Behavioral Health Officer, has been accepted into the 2026 Cohort of the North Carolina Healthcare Foundation’s Diverse Healthcare Leaders Mentorship Program.

This highly competitive, nine-month initiative is designed to strengthen the pipeline of underrepresented leaders in healthcare across North Carolina. The program connects rising leaders with experienced executives from hospitals, health systems, and community healthcare organizations through one-on-one mentoring, peer learning, and meaningful networking opportunities that support professional growth and leadership development.

Created to ensure healthcare leadership better reflects the communities served throughout our state, this program helps strengthen equity, innovation, and responsiveness to local needs.

Through this opportunity, Gwendolyn will further enhance leadership capacity that can be brought back to Agape — supporting our continued efforts to expand integrated care, invest in staff development, and strengthen community-focused behavioral health services in eastern North Carolina.

By participating in a program intentionally focused on diverse leadership, we help elevate the voices and needs of the communities we serve — particularly those who have been historically underrepresented in healthcare decision-making.

Please join us in congratulating Gwendolyn on this outstanding achievement! 👏
