Spring has arrived in the clinic 🌱🌸 and so have our garden-themed sensory bins!

We’re bringing stories to life with hands-on exploration—pairing new books about gardens and springtime with sensory play that sparks curiosity and builds important skills. Our “dirt” (made from crushed Coco Puffs!) is a huge hit as little hands dig, scoop, plant, and discover.

These sensory bins support:

🌼 Imaginative play
🌼 Language and vocabulary growth
🌼 Sensory processing in a fun, engaging way

At Guidepost Pediatric Therapies, we recognize and honor the incredible strength, resilience, and sacrifice of military children and their families. These children navigate frequent moves, new schools, changing routines, and time apart from loved ones—all while continuing to grow, learn, and thrive.

Military children show us what courage looks like in everyday life. They adapt quickly, build new friendships, and carry a level of strength far beyond their years.

Our sweet friends have been working hard during tabletop activities, building the foundation for stronger fine motor skills every day. From grasping and manipulating small objects to improving hand strength and coordination, these moments add up to BIG progress.

It’s incredible to watch each child grow in their abilities and independence right before our eyes. We are so proud of the effort they bring to every session!

🧸✨ Big skills built through miniature play and functional OT skills this morning at Guidepost!

Our young patients dove into miniature play in OT, and while it may look small, the functional skills we’re targeting are HUGE:

🏡 Fine motor strength & coordination
🧠 Imagination + symbolic play
🧩 Problem-solving and sequencing
🖐️ Bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
🎯 Attention and task engagement

From setting up tiny environments to creating their own little worlds, our kiddos are practicing real-life skills in a way that feels natural, fun, and meaningful.

This is what pediatric OT is all about—meeting children where they are and helping them grow through play. 💙

In OT this week, our kids worked on circuit board activities—and while it looks like play, it’s packed with powerful skill-building:

⚡ Fine motor precision (placing components, connecting pieces)
⚡ Visual-motor integration
⚡ Problem-solving + sequencing
⚡ Attention and task persistence
⚡ Cause-and-effect understanding

There’s something amazing that happens when a child connects a circuit and sees it light up 💡—you can literally see their confidence turn on too.

Hands-on learning like this bridges movement, thinking, and creativity, helping our kids strengthen the skills they need for school and everyday life.

Today’s activity was all about creating an adorable rabbit using a variety of textures and collage materials—and it was so much more than just cute crafts!

Through this hands-on project, our kiddos worked on:
✨ Fine motor skills – cutting, tearing, and gluing
✨ Bilateral coordination – using both hands together with control
✨ Sensory processing – exploring different textures (soft, rough, bumpy)
✨ Visual motor integration – placing pieces with intention and accuracy
✨ Attention & task completion – following steps to finish their bunny masterpiece
✨ Creativity & self-expression – making each rabbit uniquely their own

Activities like this build the foundational skills needed for handwriting, dressing, and everyday independence—all while having fun!
