**Dr. Alana McLaughlin, ND** is a naturopathic doctor who specializes in identifying and treating the root causes of chronic health concerns. She uses functional medicine, in-depth lab testing, and natural therapeutics to support hormone balance, thyroid function, digestion, fatigue, and overall wellness.

**Samantha Dowd, LMT, LDT** is a licensed massage therapist with over 15 years of experience, specializing in body balancing, neuromuscular reeducation, and therapeutic exercise. She works closely with the doctors to deliver integrated, hands-on care that improves movement, supports recovery, and addresses the root of musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Most people try to “think” their way out of stress.

But your nervous system doesn’t speak logic first.
It speaks physiology.

Your breath is one of the fastest ways to communicate safety to your brain.

When stress hits, breathing becomes shallow, fast, and chest-driven. Your body shifts into survival mode:
• elevated heart rate
• muscle tension
• brain fog
• inflammation
• poor digestion
• heightened pain sensitivity

Slow, controlled breathing helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for rest, recovery, healing, digestion, and regulation.

One of the simplest tools:
Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
Exhale slowly for 6–8 seconds
Repeat for 1–2 minutes

That longer exhale signals to the brain:
“You are safe.”

Breathwork isn’t just relaxation.
It’s neurological input.

Your nervous system is listening to every breath you take.

Not all magnesium is the same… and this is where people get confused.

Magnesium is involved in 300+ processes in the body including sleep, stress, muscle recovery, hormones, energy, headaches, and nervous system regulation. Yet many people are deficient without realizing it.

Different forms do different things:

• Glycinate → calming, sleep, anxiety, muscle tension
• Citrate → digestion and constipation support
• Malate → energy and muscle recovery
• L-Threonate → brain, focus, memory, nervous system
• Taurate → heart and blood pressure support
• Oxide → common, cheap, but poorly absorbed

Sometimes magnesium “doesn’t work” simply because it’s the wrong form for your body.

Somewhere along the way, healthcare became more about managing symptoms quickly than asking why the body is struggling in the first place. Sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, sunlight, nervous system health, connection, recovery… these things used to be the foundation. Now they’re often an afterthought.

Instead, many people leave appointments with a prescription but no real conversation about the lifestyle patterns that may be contributing to how they feel.
