Eating the same meal everyday may be doing a disservice to your gut!

Eating a wide variety of plant foods can help promote beneficial bacterial growth and improve overall digestive function.

Try mixing up types of veggies, toppings, and snacks. A good rule of thumb is to shoot for 25-30 different types of plants per week! This means grains, legumes, leafy greens, fruits, veg, nuts, seeds, and even spices.

Prebiotics are much different from probiotics because they are the fibers that feed the healthy bacteria in our microbiomes. This needs we need a balance of both.

Boost digestion with bitter greens!

Bitter flavors can increase saliva, digestive enzymes, and stomach acids. This improves the breakdown of food and the absorption of nutrients.

Bitter greens also have prebiotic fibers that stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria in the microbiome.

This is why bitter greens can decrease bloat, reduce acid reflux, and postprandial gas.

Bowel movements can change during travel, times of stress, and at different points in the menstrual cycle.

Surprise! This sample day actually has seven servings 🥬

Fruits and vegetables support our health in so many ways! They provide hydration, fiber, antioxidants, flavors, and prebiotics.

5 servings per day is the minimum recommendation and as you can see, it’s totally achievable!

In my 1:1 coaching programs I love to push my clients to consume 9-12 servings per day. This helps to optimize digestion & energy production!

Feeling guilty about a food choice because it doesn’t fit under the made up umbrella of “clean eating” is a huge waste of time.

The term clean eating has taken on a whole new meaning and IMO is doing more harm than good.

No food is good or bad. Approaching any meal with the idea that something on your plate is in fact “bad” will increase your stress response.

Stressed out eating = poor digestion and nutrient absorption

So do yourself a favor and let go of food rules - wash your produce and enjoy your meals!

Eat foods that make you feel your best AND taste good too!

5 steps to the perfect roasted veg 🥦

1. Make sure to cut produce to a similar size. This will ensure even cooking time.

2. Lightly drizzle with oil of choice. I love avocado for its neutral flavor and high smoke point.

3. Avoid crowding on the pan. If the veggies are too close they will not cook evenly.

4. Get to know your oven! Personally I get perfect veggies at 425 for 30 minutes but your set up might be different. Practice makes perfect, just keep a close eye 👀

5. Enjoy! The more vegetables you can eat the better. I like to aim for a minimum of 5 cups per day!

Easy mealtime hacks!

My biggest complaint from clients is that they don’t want to spend any time in the kitchen. Now it’s not realistic to live off take out, but there are a few things we can do to shorten time spent cooking.

Batch cook. Use an or slow cooker to create meals that will last for a few days.

Choose the pre-chopped veggies at the grocery store. Sometimes saving one step makes all the difference! Don’t forget to check out frozen options!

Practice! Just like anything, cooking skills come with repetition. You will get better!
