Wellness Wednesday: Modern breast cancer treatment has significantly improved survival rates, but can also cause fatigue, loss of muscle mass, and emotional strain. A new study found that exercise during chemotherapy can help address these challenges and measurably improve quality of life for women with breast cancer.

Women who participated in structured exercise programs experienced significant improvements in quality of life.

Wellness Wednesday: Positive emotions may influence how patients handle lung cancer treatment. A new study found that feeling optimistic can reduce chronic stress during immunotherapy, with coping strategies like catharsis and managing perceived life threats playing a key role.

“Perceived life threat and coping strategies were statistically associated with how positive emotions relate to chronic stress in lung cancer patients undergoing immunotherapy."

The HLRCC proudly participated in the 15th Annual Closer to Free Ride as part of the Smilow Waterbury “Rays of Hope” team, joining hundreds of riders to help raise $37,499 in support of cancer research and patient care.

Wellness Wednesday: Need another reason to get moving? Not only is exercise good for your general physical and mental health, a new study found that just one session of resistance training or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) may boost the body’s ability to slow cancer growth.

The workouts boosted the production of proteins that may slow cancer cell growth.
