National Mental Health Corps

National Mental Health Corps Mission: Leading the charge to solve the mental health workforce crisis. Vision: A nation where mental wellbeing is possible for all.

Health360 hosts several AmeriCorps National Service Programs that take a community-based approach to our nation’s physical and mental health crisis. AmeriCorps members are deployed in communities across the nation implementing evidenced-based programs that tackle health disparities in underserved communities. Health360 is also home to Healthy Minds Alliance (HMA), which is an innovative AmeriCorps program that increases the capacity of our partners to address mental health needs in their local community. Established in 2013, Healthy Minds Alliance has partnered with a variety of organizations from across the nation including universities, school districts, community health centers, health care systems, mental health centers, crisis call centers, and AHECs who host one or more Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps members serve full-time, 40 hours per week for 10 months, building capacity at their host site to address local mental health needs. Health360 is home to Northwestern Connecticut Area Health Education Center (AHEC), one of the four regional centers that comprise the Connecticut AHEC Network. AHEC focuses on developing a pipeline of future health care professionals who are prepared to practice in Connecticut’s rural and urban underserved communities.

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the people and partnerships that made this year possible.

This year, National Mental Health Corps helped strengthen the mental health workforce through service, collaboration, and a deep commitment to community care, especially during a pivotal time for crisis response.

We’re also holding space for what we lost: the conclusion of our Public Health AmeriCorps program in 2025. While the program ended, the need did not, and neither did our commitment.

Looking ahead to 2026, we’re building what’s next:

✅ new workforce pathways
✅ strengthened partnerships with community organizations
✅ program models designed to meet today’s growing need for mental health support

If you’re a funder, employer, host site, or community partner who wants to build the future of mental health workforce development with us, we’d love to connect.

Thank you to our members, host sites, supporters, and collaborators. We’re entering 2026 with gratitude and purpose.

💡National Mental Health Corps shines a spotlight on one of our longstanding partner host sites, Atrium Health . Atrium Health has been a partner host site with NMHC since 2022, and their current host site supervisor served with NMHC in 2016!

Atrium Health is deeply committed to improving health and well-being across the communities it serves. Their approach goes beyond clinical care, focusing on the everyday factors that shape health outcomes. Through investments in food access, affordable housing, employment opportunities, tobacco-free initiatives, mental health, and community clinics, Atrium Health works to meet people where they are and respond to real community needs. Current community health priorities include expanded access to Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and QPR su***de prevention training.

Mental Health First Aid is a key intervention at Atrium Health. MHFA classes are offered across a wide range of settings, including faith communities, colleges and universities, K–12 schools, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations. These trainings equip community members with the skills to recognize signs of mental health challenges and respond with confidence and care.

AmeriCorps members serving at Atrium Health play an important role in expanding the reach of these initiatives. Members support the delivery of MHFA trainings for identified populations and are encouraged to help shape where and how their efforts are focused, based on community need and personal interest.
Atrium Health’s commitment to mental and behavioral health extends well beyond trainings. Their work includes developing a dedicated behavioral health hospital, embedding virtual mental health services into primary care, and offering a wide range of community-based mental health resources. AmeriCorps Members also have opportunities to engage in broader community health and outreach activities, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to lasting, community-driven solutions.

Through this work, Atrium Health continues to strengthen access to mental health supports and build healthier, more resilient communities. To learn more about Atrium Health, visit their website at https://atriumhealth.org/

National Mental Health Corps is proud to spotlight Donna Rollyson, currently serving her second service term with Northern West Virginia Area Health Education Center in Glenville, WV. Donna’s service journey with NMHC began in 2023. Throughout her two terms of service, Donna has been trained as an Adult, Youth, and Teen Mental Health First Aid instructor and has trained just under 200 community participants in these life-saving interventions.

Donna brought with her more than two decades of experience in office management, community service, and small-business leadership. Her professional background includes directing nonprofit operations, managing contracting and construction businesses, and providing high-level administrative, financial, and customer service support across multiple industries. Donna is a strong pillar of her community and lives in service each day. She founded and operated community-centered organizations, including a nonprofit food pantry. Her career reflects a long-standing commitment to helping others, building community, and leading with compassion, all of which she now brings to her service with the National Mental Health Corps.

As part of her placement with Northern West Virginia AHEC, Donna has become an anchor in their work across rural, medically underserved communities. Through her service, Donna brings Mental Health First Aid education directly to the people who need it most. Her presence supports NWVAHEC’s ongoing effort to break down barriers, create more opportunities for learning, and spark conversations that reduce stigma and strengthen community trust.

Serving across 23 counties in West Virginia, Donna plays a vital role in expanding Mental Health First Aid training for both community members and health professionals. Her work also supports NWVAHEC’s commitment to preparing the next generation of health workers, ensuring they enter their careers with a strong foundation in mental health awareness and response. Through each training, each conversation, and each connection, Donna is helping strengthen the network of support that rural West Virginians can rely on.

NMHC is so grateful for Donna and her service to Northern West Virginia AHEC, and her local community!
