National Mental Health Corps

National Mental Health Corps Mission: Leading the charge to solve the mental health workforce crisis. Vision: A nation where mental wellbeing is possible for all.

Health360 hosts several AmeriCorps National Service Programs that take a community-based approach to our nation’s physical and mental health crisis. AmeriCorps members are deployed in communities across the nation implementing evidenced-based programs that tackle health disparities in underserved communities. Health360 is also home to Healthy Minds Alliance (HMA), which is an innovative AmeriCorps program that increases the capacity of our partners to address mental health needs in their local community. Established in 2013, Healthy Minds Alliance has partnered with a variety of organizations from across the nation including universities, school districts, community health centers, health care systems, mental health centers, crisis call centers, and AHECs who host one or more Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps members serve full-time, 40 hours per week for 10 months, building capacity at their host site to address local mental health needs. Health360 is home to Northwestern Connecticut Area Health Education Center (AHEC), one of the four regional centers that comprise the Connecticut AHEC Network. AHEC focuses on developing a pipeline of future health care professionals who are prepared to practice in Connecticut’s rural and urban underserved communities.

Spotted along a local walking trail, a simple but powerful reminder: “You matter.”

Messages like this, paired with immediate access to support like the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, meet people where they are, outside, alone, and often in moments when they may need it most.

Prevention doesn’t only happen in offices or classrooms. It happens in everyday spaces, on paths people walk every day, offering a quiet but clear signal that support is always within reach.

This is what a community that cares looks like.

We are seeking mission-aligned partners across sectors, including nonprofits, schools, higher education, healthcare systems, and government agencies.

If your organization is ready to expand its impact and be part of a statewide mental health workforce solution, we invite you to express interest.

National Mental Health Corps was represented at the Connecticut Workforce Summit hosted by CBIA, where leaders across sectors came together to shape the future of talent and opportunity in Connecticut.

We were encouraged to hear Governor Ned Lamont announce the launch of the Connecticut Career Pathways Commission, to be led by Miguel Cardona, Ed. D., alongside the introduction of the Connecticut Workforce & Education Strategy Blueprint. These efforts signal a strong, coordinated commitment to building accessible, high-quality career pathways for Connecticut residents.

Keynote speaker Mark C. Perna reinforced the importance of intentionally connecting the workforce pipeline and reframing how young people navigate their career journeys, challenging us to think differently about the value and competitive advantage we provide.

At National Mental Health Corps, we are proud to be part of this momentum. We are actively investing in strengthening Connecticut’s mental health workforce, with a focus on building sustainable pipelines that support emerging professionals, expanding access to care across communities, and working alongside new and existing partners to launch state-based initiatives that further advance this work.

The future of workforce development in Connecticut is collaborative, innovative, and deeply human-centered, and we’re excited to contribute to what comes next.

Connection, compassion, and a little bit of superhero spirit 🦸‍♀️

At UConn Waterbury’s Fresh Check Day, our Collegiate Health Service Corps students were on the front lines of peer engagement, creating space for honest conversations about mental health and inviting students to share and take with them words of encouragement from one another. CEO Tricia Harrity and Northwestern CT AHEC Director Nina Nhatavong joined to experience the impact firsthand and celebrate their leadership in action.

And yes, Coco the therapy dog stole hearts all day, reminding us that sometimes the simplest moments of connection can make the biggest difference 🐶

We’re proud to support the next generation of mental health leaders who are showing up where it matters most.
