I’ve been reconnecting with my love for movement which has gotten easier since buying a great used bike

Growing up I was a runner and while I wasn’t very good, I loved going slow for a long time and the energetic flow it would bring me

Now that I have access to a bike (as running right now is a no-no for my thyroid), I am thrilled to get back that runners high feeling

For the past few weeks I had felt stuck and stagnant and just heading out for a 12 mile ride in the cool trees was

I N C R E D I B L E

for feeling that energy of aliveness again

And prior to the bike, I would walk my face off until I managed to get this energetic flow

So this is just your daily reminder that to heal your energy, you need to move!

Take a moment to remind yourself that you’re not a machine

The key difference is that you FEEL and your body reacts to those feelings - you can thank your nervous system for that

So when stress (both good stress called eustress - and bad stress called distress) overflow - your body REACTS to that

This is when cortisol output increases to meet the demands of all of this stress

High and chronic levels of cortisol are associated with weight gain and obesity

High stress = high cortisol = weight gain/resistance to lose weight

I’m seeing this very often in clients and it’s a hard ideology to break

More is not better. Better is better.

Blood sugar dysregulation is a massive stressor and is directly related to elevated cortisol

So please, EAT MORE REAL FOOD

You’ll hear often that I talk about finding ✨connection✨ to food

There are numerous ways to do this that I will list below, but one of my favorites is spending a weekend morning at a farmers market - talking to locals about their craft, how they got into it, and of course... purchasing their products

Romanticizing an afternoon at the market propels me to eat healthier and creates a deeper connection to my community and nutrition

Other ways to deepen your connection to food:

- Bring back feasting
- The family meal
- Cooking at home
- Growing your own food or herbs
- Hunting, fishing, foraging
- Shopping locally
- Becoming a member of a CSA

The deeper connection we have to food, the more pleasure we get from food, the more optimal our digestion, and the healthier we will be!

When you go from night sweats and being so drained that you can’t train... to feeling even better during your workouts than before!

Also, this client regularly races in the IRON MAN. So training and feeling their best is of the utmost importance!

How did we make these changes?

✔️ Increased daily intake of fat + protein
✔️ Reduced the amount of snacking and focused on 3 meals with 2 snacks
✔️ Breakfast before coffee
✔️ Added MCT oil to coffee

Seriously, that’s it. It is still astounding to me that if you give the body what it needs, it will take off and feel amazing!

When we think of fuel for our bodies, we can think of a fire

Carbs act as the kindling because they catch quickly, but they also burn up fast

The logs can be thought of as fat! They can take a little while to begin burning, but once they do you are good for a long time

This is why if you start your day with a bagel or other carb, you will be tired again very quickly. That bagel was just kindling for your fire (energy)

I’ve started a new book (while I still haven’t finished my current one, who else does this lol) and this sentence just resonated so incredibly deeply

Since I was a kid I have had a deep sense of gratitude for nature and the wonder, awe, and presence it’s brought me

But as I’ve aged, there have been points in my life where I lose this sense of gratitude and I always feel lost without it

As a result of those difficult times, I have cultivated gratitude into my daily life in a way that is meaningful for me

Every day I have a checklist of things I need to in order to care for myself. This includes doing...

1 thing for my body
1 thing for my mind
1 thing for my soul

When it comes to my soul, this passage you read above is exactly what I do every day

Every day, I will look to nature or the simplest experiences of the day and find deep presence that brings a smile to my face for a few seconds

And once I have that for the day, I will revisit it in my mind and rewear that joy again if things get tough

To this day I can recall floating in the lake looking at the mountains
I can recall snow on trees after a storm
I can remember specific sunsets, and mountainous drives

I think happiness is found in these brief seconds-long, experiences

Maybe it’s just me being present, maybe it’s gratitude, maybe this is a form of meditation?

But you can tell from this 2nd image, that compared to everything else, this is the 1 thing I rarely rarely don’t complete because it fills me up more than anything else

I hope this finds those who need it. Let me know if this resonates 💕
