Leftover flowers are making a lasting impact!

When our volunteer Ruth Lohmann (also a designer at Kati Mac Floral Designs) saw an opportunity to brighten the days of our hospice patients and families, she and the team at Kati Mac brought the idea to life. Using flowers left over from weddings, their team creates beautiful arrangements for Willow Tree Hospice, an Amedisys company in Kennett Square, PA.

🩷 Caregiver Spotlight: Heather 🩷

Today we are honored to feature Heather, one of our amazing AseraCare hospice nurses who recently transitioned into serving as our Business Office Manager.

✨ Her Journey to Hospice
Heather has been a nurse for 15 years. Her calling to hospice began years ago when she witnessed the care her grandfather received. She remembers how the hospice team explained the changes he was going through in a way the family could understand and how they cared for him with such compassion. From that moment, Heather knew she wanted to do the same for other families.

She spent five years in the field as a hospice nurse before deciding to transition into the office. For Heather, learning the “other side” of hospice meant not only gaining a new perspective but also being able to support her coworkers in meaningful ways.

✨ Getting to Know Heather
🐾 Pet mom to Mikey, her beloved rescue dog she adopted four years ago—her true buddy
🍴 A foodie at heart—she loves trying new foods and visiting the newest restaurants with friends every other Friday
🩷 Loves the “extras” the AseraCare team provides for patients—the small but meaningful touches that make a difference every day

✨🎂 A Special Birthday Celebration ✨

Our AseaCare hospice team recently had the privilege of celebrating the 68th birthday of our sweet patient, Linda. 💕 Linda has such a love for cats and birds, so we surprised her with a birdfeeder and seed to hang outside her window, giving her a front-row seat to watch the birds right from her bed.

There were cupcakes, laughter, and lots of love shared that day. Linda even made sure her roommate and the facility staff enjoyed cupcakes with her. Her nurse, Brandy, brought along her favorite candy—Bit-O-Honey—and our hospice liaison Jan joined in on singing Happy Birthday with all of us.

It was such a joyful reminder that it’s often the simple things—sweet treats, music, laughter, and caring company—that mean the most. 💕

🚜 Outside of work: Angela and her husband maintain a 126-acre farm where they raise chickens, cattle, and pigs, and spend their time making hay

For Angela, the most rewarding part of hospice care is helping people feel better each day. She loves going home at the end of the day knowing that she made a difference in someone’s life.

🩷 Caregiver Spotlight: Chrisann 🩷

Today we’re proud to highlight Chrisann, one of our incredible AseraCare hospice nurses whose journey into hospice care is both unique and inspiring.

✨ Her Journey to Hospice
Chrisann’s very first exposure to hospice was as a nursing student during a rotation in Crawford County. At the time, she thought, “Wow, it takes such a special person to do this job—I don’t think I could ever do that.” Years later, while interviewing for a home health position, she was encouraged to try hospice instead. She agreed, and now—10 years later—she still loves it and feels extremely blessed to have cared for so many families. Chrisann says, “I’m a firm believer that our good Lord puts you where you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there.”

✨ Getting to Know Chrisann
🏡 Grew up in Pittsburgh; has lived in Cambridge Springs for the past 21 years with her husband and best friend
🍴 Favorite Restaurant: The Venango Inn
🐔 Pets: 17 very social chickens who even enjoy listening to music with her
🧵 Hobby: Quilting (she calls it her “fabric addiction” instead of shoes or purses!)
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Fun Fact: She has 10 siblings—five brothers and five sisters—all from the same parents, landing right in the middle herself. She says this is where her “gift of gab” comes from!

✨ Why Hospice?
For Chrisann, one of the most meaningful aspects of hospice is helping families through one of the hardest decisions of their lives. She finds it an honor to provide care during such a sensitive time and cherishes the many wonderful families she has met over the years. She describes her work with AseraCare Hospice as being part of “heaven’s waiting room” and is grateful for her amazing teammates who make the journey even more special.

Today we’re excited to feature Melissa, one of our AseraCare Hospice RN case managers serving patients and families in Clarion, Jefferson, and Venango Counties.

✨ Getting to Know Melissa
🏡 From Brookville, PA, where she still lives in the home she grew up in
🐾 Fur family: Three miniature Bernedoodles, four Maine C**n cats, and two Siamese cats
🎺 Musician at heart: Plays trumpet in the Clarion County Community Band and the PennWest Symphonic Band
🎭 Has performed in the pit orchestra for over 20 musicals—and loves attending concerts and musicals
🎶 Favorite Music: Christian artists like for KING & COUNTRY, Newsboys, and Sidewalk Prophets
🍎 Fun Fact: Before becoming a nurse in 2018, Melissa was a substitute elementary and music teacher (2008–2016)

🩷 Her Journey to Hospice
Melissa’s passion for hospice began during her nursing school externship in a local hospital. On her very first week, her preceptor—who loved hospice—introduced her to caring for patients and families at end of life. Melissa immediately fell in love with the compassion and connection that hospice provides.

Today, she feels blessed to work alongside her mentor, Amy, and honored to be part of such an amazing hospice team.

Melissa shared: “I’m so blessed to get to work with my mentor Amy at AseraCare. I’m honored to work with such an amazing group of people.”

We are so grateful for Melissa’s heart, her dedication, and the many ways she touches lives through hospice care. 🩷

🩷✨ Celebrating James – 92 Wonderful Years ✨🩷

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating a very special milestone — James’s 92nd birthday. Born in 1933, James has a heart full of love for dogs, so together with his daughter Kelly we planned a celebration that reflected just that.

🐾 Our nurse Katie brought her dog, Elliott, to share in the joy.
🐶 Our nurse Kelly gifted James a stuffed pup he named Seibald, which brought an instant smile.
🥤 And of course, his favorite root beer and a birthday cake completed the day.

The pure joy on James’s face, the tender moments with his daughter, and the love that filled the room remind us why these celebrations mean so much. Hospice is about honoring life, love, and the moments that matter most.

💉 Has been a Registered Nurse in both Ohio and Pennsylvania for 19 years—while he’s not currently practicing, his licenses remain active
