Julia Hanneman-Schoenbach has been exploring family history for over 40 years. She has Pommeranian and Saxony German roots, as well as Luxembourg, Norwegian, and Cornish (Cornwall, England) ancestors, She has also helped her husband with his Bavarian, Posen, and Hungarian ancestors. ; She is active in the Waterford Genealogical Society, where she is the second Tuesday evening of the month convenor (first 30 minutes for any Germanic questions); she also belongs to the Cornish Connection of Lower Michigan, and Southwest Wisconsin Cornish Society She grew up around Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Michigan Genealogical Council 2023 Fall Family History Event!
Over the Top: Researching Your Michigan World War I Ancestor with Kris Rzepczynski, a Senior Archivist at the Archives of Michigan, where he specializes in family history and Michigan research, Kris has worked in the genealogical community for more than 20 years. He is a former Vice President of Membership for the Federation of Genealogical Societies and a Past President of the Mid-Michigan Genealogical Society.

This program will explore the fabulously rich record collections and resources, many of them state-specific, available for Michigan World War I servicemen.
Each fall, the Michigan Genealogical Council, with our partners, the Archives of Michigan and the Library of Michigan, presents the Fall Family History Event. This year, you can attend onsite in Lansing or online from home. Michael L. Strauss, AG, will be our keynote speaker.

All in a Day’s Work: Occupational Genealogical Research:
What did our ancestors do for a living? Many of our ancestors changed their vocations regularly in order to support their families. Tapping into records of employment will offer new ways to approach your family history. Old occupations no longer in use will be discussed as this lecture focuses on the methodology to research your ancestors work history.

The Michigan Genealogical Council and co-sponsors, the Archives of Michigan, and the Library of Michigan.
When: Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Where: Michigan Library and Historical Center or virtually via Zoom Events.
Tickets are now available using Eventbrite.
Early bird: $50 through October 26.
October 26 through November 4 are $60.
An optional lunch from Grand Traverse Pie Co. is available to on-site attendees

One-on-One Genealogy Help on Saturday August 19
Saturday August 19: Members of the Lydia Barnes Potter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Waterford Genealogical Society will be available in the Library's Community Room to help with your genealogical research. Experienced help in Hereditary Societies, Michigan Pioneers, general genealogy, and some DNA analysis will be available for personal one-on-one appointments.

Please preregister for a time slot (10am-12pm, 12:30-2pm, or 2-4pm) and submit your research questions or quest. Prepare for your appointment by gathering your family documents such as birth, death, and marriage records. Bible records and other family information, pedigree charts, or family trees are helpful. Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is preferred.
