Today marks the official start of National Nurses Week, and we want to shine a bright light on the incredible health team serving the Waterloo Community School District! 🩺❤️

While the "oil lamp" is the traditional symbol of nursing—honoring Florence Nightingale’s nightly rounds—our modern-day heroes are busy around the clock supporting our students' success.

Meet our District Health Team:
👩‍⚕️ 13 District Nurses
👩‍⚕️ 2 HeadStart Nurses
📋 9 Health Assistants

To give you an idea of the massive impact they have, in April alone, our health offices saw 9,693 student visits! 📈
ㅤ
Beyond the numbers, our team manages daily medications and treatments for chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma, and handles complex needs like tube feedings. They are also the quiet force behind:
✅ Creating student health plans & emergency response protocols
✅ Providing vital emotional support to students in need
✅ Preparing field trip bags & reviewing immunizations
✅ Coordinating vision and dental screenings

To our nurses and health assistants: Thank you for your expertise, your compassion, and for keeping our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. We couldn't do it without you!

Today we’re wearing denim👖in recognition of and in support of survivors.

Denim Day is a time to reflect, learn, and stand in solidarity with those impacted by s*xual violence. It serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, respect, and listening to survivors’ voices.🗣️

It sends a clear message: Clothing is never an excuse for assault (“there is no excuse and never an invitation to rape”). It’s a visible statement against victim blaming and a way to support survivors while raising awareness about s*xual violence.
