December is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Awareness Month. Seasonal Affective Disorder is very common during the winter in the Midwest, due to low levels of Vitamin D, changes in the circadian rhythm and reduced sunlight exposure. This winter, focus on getting regular exercise, spending time outdoors when weather allows, getting enough sleep, connecting with friends and family and seeking professional help if your symptoms (such as low mood, fatigue or irritability) persist or worsen.
