Dianeโs Story
In 2020, Diane Anderson faced one of the rarest and most aggressive forms of breast cancer.
Thanks to donors, Dianeโs care team at our Community Cancer Center was equipped with the advanced technology, specialized training and vital resources needed to surround her with expertise and compassion. Today, she is approaching five years cancer-free. ๐
In September 2020, just before a trip to Colorado, Diane noticed a small lump under her arm. She almost ignored it but chose to see her doctor.
While in Colorado, she received the news she didn't want to hear โ it was a rare, aggressive form of breast cancer found in only 1% of cases. She returned home immediately and began treatment with Dr. Bilal Rahim at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital โ Community Cancer Center.
Throughout her treatment, Diane placed her full trust in her UnityPoint Health โ Waterloo care team.
When her treatments ended, Diane finally heard the word she had been waiting for ... remission. She remains cancer-free today. With each checkup, she's reminded of the extraordinary care and support that guided her through her journey.
โI cry every time I go back,โ she says, profoundly thankful for the team who saved her life. โEvery week I went in, they were there for me. The receptionist, the nurse, the lab tech, Dr. (Bilal) Rahim, the infusion nurses โ all are just wonderful, positive people.โ
