You're Hired!!!!!!! Congratulations to Nathen Hovatter on earning his job at the University of Northern Iowa in the Rialto Dining Center. Sometimes in Project SEARCH we have interns that get into a rotation and something just clicks. That was true for Nathen when he began on the dishwashing side of Dining & Nutrition. Nathen found something that he had a passion for and really enjoyed. He was fortunate to find a job that was right up his alley. Congratulations Nathen! First Day of Project SEARCH 25'/26' is in the books! A lot of excitement and nervousness! Special shout out to UnityPoint Health - Waterloo Security Officer Glenn Beenblossom and Moe for stopping by today and talking about safety in the hospital. Project SEARCH - Allen Hospital class of 2023/2024 was recognized with the Excellent Employment Outcomes Award at the Project SEARCH annual conference! We earned the honor after more than 80% of our Project SEARCH team members transitioned to employment following their internship. We are very proud of this class and all of their accomplishments.

A BIG thank you to UnityPoint Health - Waterloo for allowing us the opportunity to have our program in their hospital. Inclusion Connection for all of their efforts in finding jobs. Finally, Waterloo Community School District for having a program that impacts our students lives!

Intern Spotlight - Ethan Jones or EJ as we all know him, came from East High.

EJ split his first rotation between Inpatient Pharmacy and 4 Surg. In Inpatient Pharmacy EJ's tasks included stocking and sorting IV bags for use in the hospital, as well as cleaning and sanitizing high touch surface areas. He also deposited medications in the OmniCell machine and completed the OmniCell cleaning route in over 30 departments. In 4 Surg as the first Project Search Intern, EJ had the opportunity to interact with the patients by refilling patient water cups, making coffee for patients. He also filled the blanket warmer and took out trash/soiled linens.

In his second roatation EJ worked in Housekeeping. EJ focused on cleaning patient rooms and common areas. In patient rooms he would sweep, mop, and sanitize high touch surface areas. This freshened up patient rooms and made their stay more comfortable. In the common areas, EJ focused on vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms, and office spaces throughout the hospital.

EJ's third rotation was in Ambulatory. His main job duties were to turn over patient rooms after being used. EJ was responsible for swapping out linens, dumping trash, sanitizing and mopping rooms.

Your attention to fine detail has earned you a job at Unity Point in Ambulatory cleaning rooms. EJ, we are confident you will achieve great success.
