How do I know if I have Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is often recognized by symptoms experienced during menstruation including painful periods, heavy bleeding, and premenstrual spotting. However, many women experience symptoms outside of this as well because symptoms can vary depending on where the endometriosis tissue is growing. This can include pelvic pain, painful ovulation, gastrointestinal issues (bloating, gas, cramps), nerve pain, fatigue, infertility, and pain with s*x, bowel movements, or urination.

Because the stage of endometriosis doesn't correlate with the pain level or symptoms, many individuals discover they have Endometriosis even though they are asymptomatic.

Ultrasounds and MRI scans can sometimes show potential signs of endometriosis, but the only way to get a definitive diagnosis is through surgery. The most common method for Endometriosis is laparoscopic surgery. Although there is no cure for Endometriosis, relief can be found through laparoscopic excision surgery, as well as dietary and lifestyle changes to reduce inflammation.

If you experience one or more of these symptoms, you are not alone. Give us a call to learn more about your options for education and medical care. (319) 232-2695

The time is near! 🌟✨

Our Virtual Spring Appeal is an important part of Guiding Star Cedar Valley's ability to meet our financial needs so we can continue to provide our ever important services to our community. This is our 6th Annual Spring Appeal, and we are so looking forward to sharing client testimonials, and why the work we are doing here at Guiding Star Cedar Valley is so important to women and families in our community.

We believe it is important for women to have access to services that give them the support they need to understand and embrace their naturally beautiful bodies. We are an affiliate of the Guiding Star Project who is on a mission to provide women with an elevated, life-affirming healthcare experience from those early days of puberty all the way through post-menopause. Our center is a part of a national network that is protecting women's purpose through body and fertility awareness, pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, motherhood, and menopause care. With our continued growth here in the Cedar Valley, we are reaching capacity with the increasing demand for our services in our local community. We need more staff, more space, and more financial resources to help us serve more women and families!

Our goal for this campaign is to raise $50,000 to help support the work that we are doing here at Guiding Star Cedar Valley. Stay tuned to win some fun prizes, and support a mission that is dear to our hearts!

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease where endometrial-like tissue grows outside of the uterus. The endometrium is the uterine lining that builds and sheds each month during the menstrual cycle due to hormones like estrogen and progesterone.

Endometriosis reacts similarly to the tissue of the endometrium inside of the uterus because it builds and sheds each month. However, since this tissue is located outside of the uterus, it is not able to exit the body through the va**na when menstruation occurs. This then can cause pain, internal scar tissue, adhesions, and even infertility.

Although it is estimated that 1 in 10 women have endometriosis, this statistic reflects diagnosed cases. The true number of endometriosis cases is estimated to be much higher due to delays in diagnosis of 7 to 10 years and many asymptomatic cases.

Guiding Star Cedar Valley provides resources and referrals to women through each stage of their journey with endometriosis. Fertility tracking creates opportunities to identify this disease, and take steps to wholistically manage symptoms.

March is Worldwide Endometriosis Awareness Month, and it is so important to educate men and women on how to identify Endometriosis, as well as options when it comes to treatment and management. This month, we will be sharing symptoms of Endometriosis, the use of NaProTechnology in treatment, how to identify Endometriosis, testimonies from our providers who have worked with patients with Endometriosis, as well as the journeys of women living with Endometriosis.
