Confidence in breastfeeding and your natural ability to provide your baby with everything they need is key in a positive breastfeeding journey!✨

As World Breastfeeding Month comes to an end, we would like to highlight one of our incredible mothers who has flourished as a breastfeeding mama. Through her struggles with worry and anxiety, she sought support, and grew to trust in everything her body was designed to do.🌟

"Knowing myself, the best way I combat fear and worry is with information. So I signed up for the Breastfeeding Basics class with Susan and Danielle at Guiding Star when I was in my third trimester, and I prayed that I would get some information to help me. And what I got was WAY more than that. I shared my worries and doubts with both Danielle and Susan, and they helped walk through every scenario with me and how they would support me in my journey. I was blessed to have Danielle with me for the first latch after giving birth, and I have never felt so empowered, confident, and seen as in that moment. I felt like everything I had learned just fell into place."

Thank you, Keri for sharing your incredible testimony with us and for trusting Susan, Danielle, and Guiding Star to support you. We feel so blessed for every breastfeeding mother we have the opportunity to spend time with, and are so excited to continue growing our family!💕

Keri has shared some positive affirmations that have helped her remind herself of who she is and what she is capable of during times of doubt. Our hope is that these encourage you in the same way they have for her. If there is anything we can do to support you, please reach out using clientservices@guidingstarcedarvalley.org
or call us at (319) 232-2695.

As World Breastfeeding Month comes to an end, we spend this last week looking at the final level of the Social-Ecological Model, Individual! 🎉✨

The Individual level focuses on knowledge, attitude, skills, and behaviors associated with breastfeeding. It is important for mothers to feel confident when breastfeeding, trusting that their bodies are designed to provide their babies with everything they need!🌟

It is also important for individuals to have knowledge about breastfeeding that is accurate and beneficial. This foundation helps to build positive behaviors, creating more opportunities for mothers to not only succeed, but flourish!🌸

Follow along this last week as we highlight breastfeeding tips and tricks, as well as a testimonial from one of our incredible breastfeeding mothers who has truly flourished throughout her journey.

Supporting those we love while they are breastfeeding can be as simple as holding their baby while they shower, or making them their favorite snack. It is so important for moms to have a support system while breastfeeding. As a mom, it can be difficult to ask for help - but it can make all the difference for their health when they do.

Here are some simple, yet powerful, ways you can support a breastfeeding mom in your life.🌟

✨If she is visiting, provide a clean, safe space for her to breastfeed. Help her to feel comfortable and cared for.
✨ Bring her food or offer snacks while she is breastfeeding.
✨ Fill up her water for her; breastfeeding makes moms very thirsty!
✨ Offer to hold her baby so she can use the bathroom, shower, or spend a moment meeting her needs.
✨Attend a Breastfeeding Moms' Community or Breastfeeding class with her. (We have those! 😉)
✨Offer to do laundry, cook, or clean for her.
✨Help with burping or diaper changes so mom can relax between feedings!

If you know a mom who is choosing to breastfeed, provide her with support and care throughout her journey. All it takes is one offer, one text, or one person to show that they care and make a difference!💕
