"YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT" Have you ever heard that?
The idea behind this saying is that food is a pillar for health.
To create health, we need quality, nutrient dense, whole foods.
It seems logical since the food provides the building blocks for our tissues, muscles and bones.
It's not wrong, but it's NOT fully true either.
We believe that the perfect diet is out there. If we could find it, we would be healthier, and the weight would come off. So, we try Keto, Paleo, Atkins, plant-based and more!
There are so many diets and many more variations.
Not all of these diets are healthy. Sometimes, people get results but usually, those don't last and studies show the weight all comes back (plus benefits) within 2-3 years.
So, what are we TO DO??
The truth is that "WE ARE WHAT WE ABSORB."
Finding the right, sustainable, sound eating plan (not diet) is an experiment in itself.
We need to identify the foods that heal and those that harm.
Based on our underlying health issues, we may not do so well with dairy. Keto may not work for us if we are unable to break down fat. Coffee may be too acidic and cause gut issues.
A healthy food may cause inflammation if we have certain conditions that need to be healed first.
Following general advice is NOT going to give us the best, long-term results.
It is better to ask ourselves, what is the ingredient list and how do we feel after eating this?
Do we see signs of bloating or fatigue?
It is worth spending the time, energy and money to finally discover how we need to eat for health. Not everyone is the same!
