A Blast from the Past, the 2026 Senior Prom, was a truly memorable event. The YMCA Human Support Group is to be commended for their excellent organization, which included corsages, boutonnieres, music spanning multiple decades, dancing, laughter and refreshments. Congratulations to Prom King Vernon and Queen Diane.

Thanks to day, evening, night shift and kitchen staff for all your help setting up and cleaning up for this event. You are truly amazing and deeply appreciated!

Celebrating Our Local Heroes! 💙

We have been out and about celebrating Appreciation Week for our incredible Police Officers, Nursing Home Staff, and EMS Teams! (We were early on EMS week and no one seemed to mind! 😉)

As a small thank you, we gifted these folks with goodie boxes packed with muffins, cookies, and candy. It is just a tiny token compared to the massive impact they have on communities every single day.

We are so endlessly grateful for their hard work, sacrifice, and the deep care they show to all of us.

Thank you for everything you do!

Our second Staff Spotlight for May shines almost a bright as her smile. Please join us in celebrating Sierra Marie Steibel.

Sierra was born on January 16th, 2003, at Belleville Memorial Hospital. She grew up in Prairie Du Rocher and currently lives there. When Sierra was a child, she enjoyed playing softball, camping, fishing, and hunting with her dad.

Sierra graduated from Red Bud High School in 2021. She attended SWIC to get her associates degree and knows she wants to do something in the medical field. We think she will be a great nurse one day and we plan to support her in that journey!

Some of Sierra’s previous occupations include waitressing at Lisa’s in Prairie Du Rocher and being a CNA at the Ruma Convent. When the convent shut down in 2022, Sierra started working here at Garden Place as a Care Partner.

Sierra and her boyfriend Deon welcomed a beautiful baby boy named Rhylen William in September. He is 8 months old and growing like a w**d! He is adorable and has visited Garden Place a few times and met some of the residents. Sierra loves being a mom and wouldn’t trade it for anything in this world.

When asked who the most influential person in Sierra’s life is, she said “My mom Jeanine. She is a great mother, and she is teaching me to be a great mother to my son, and she never hesitates to help! She always has my back, and she has taught me so much.”

Sierra enjoys going to Cardinals games, spending time with her loved ones, and being outside. She has taken Rhylen to 3 games already this season! GO CARDS!

Sierra said that her favorite part about working at Garden Place is “The residents. New or old, they are the sweetest people once you get to know them.” We hear a ton of compliments about Sierra and how good she is with the residents. She is a hard worker, and we are blessed to have her on our team. Keep up the good work Sierra!

Our Staff Spotlight for May is shining on two amazing care partners here at Garden Place. Our first is Haden Allen Bixby!

Hayden was born July 1st, 1992, in Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) in Texas. When he was 4 years old his family moved to Waterloo, IL where he grew up. When Hayden was younger, he enjoyed exploring, swimming, and riding his bike with friends.

He graduated from Waterloo High School. After High School he attended SWIC. He most recently received his CNA License! We were very proud of his accomplishment and desire to further his education in the Healthcare field. We think he would make a great nurse one day!

Some of Hayden’s previous occupations include working at a doctor’s office in Columbia, IL., a hotel concierge at Motel 8, and Walmart.

Hayden is single but one day hopes to have a life partner. When asked who the most influential person in his life has been, he said “My mom. She’s always been my rock and motivated me to go back to school." Hayden’s mom is a nurse and works in healthcare as well.

Some of Hayden’s favorite past times now are hanging out with his friends, thrifting, and playing video games with friends online.

Hayden said what he enjoys most about working at Garden Place is getting to know the residents and being there to make their day better. He loves working at Garden Place, with his residents, and his co-workers. He said he’s very thankful to work here, and we are very thankful to have him on our team! Keep up the good work Hayden!
