I did everything “right”… and my health still didn’t improve.

I counted calories.
I tracked macros.
I bought the supplements.
I completed the workouts.

But what actually changed my health wasn’t another plan.

It was getting a proper diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren’s syndrome.

Because once I had answers, I stopped guessing.

And once I stopped guessing, I could work with my healthcare team on a real plan to manage my autoimmune disease.

That support changed everything.

That support helped me after months of almost debilitating fatigue, start to see progress toward feeling ‘normal’ again.

What kind of guidance or support do you feel like you need most right now to actually see progress?

Will you be joining us on Saturday?! I hope so, because our next Roundtable discussion is going to be good.

So, grab your Early Grey tea ☕️, a notebook 📔, and a pen ✍🏾 , because we are diving in real deep into what happens when “eating well” doesn’t account for economic stability.

This is a conversation not just about nutrition, but also about how food insecurity can impact our ability to adequately nourish ourselves.

I want you to experience this LIVE with us, so make sure you head to EBWHCommunity.com/subscribe to reserve your spot in The Roundtable community.

Are you 🌮 or 🌯? No, this is not a trick question, nor will this end in a recipe.

I personally love both; however, if I could only choose one, it would be a yellow corn crunchy taco.

🌮 I put the same ingredients in my taco as in my burrito.
🌮 As much as I love tortillas, the yellow corn shell just has that crunch factor.
🌮 I can eat one burrito, but there is always room for tacos!

Needless to say, if you ever need a taco date, I’m your girl!

So, back to you… Taco or Burrito?

I can tell you that being in community matters, but it’s not until you experience it that you can truly believe it.

During last month’s live Roundtable discussion, one of our community members, Chantal, brought to the table a perspective that I hadn't admittedly considered before.

We often talk about the importance of being safe, but we don’t often talk about feeling “comfortable” in the neighborhoods where we live and in the environments where we work.

For example, when you’re walking around your neighborhood, do you feel like you truly belong, or are there moments when people stare you down as if you’re an intruder that needs to be apprehended?

These are the types of insights that remind us why I built The Roundtable community.

There’s nothing like enjoying a Chai Tea Latte with almond milk to make my commutes to the city more pleasurable.

I know it’s six bucks I could save if I made it at home, but I honestly don’t want to.

I’d rather enjoy the experience of ordering from my favorite barista, who always adds a little “razzle dazzle,” making this an experience I genuinely look forward to.

Since developing an egg intolerance has taken away all my favorite desserts, this is the one “sweet treat” that I can still enjoy.

And, enjoy, I will! ☕️

What I do know is that health isn’t about working harder, yet that’s the narrative we often hear. It’s so hard for me as a coach and an autoimmune patient to hear people giving out actually terrible health advice. ally been my strong suit.

It’s not that I like to argue (I don’t!) or that I enjoy offending other people (I really don’t!)

What I do know is that health isn’t about working harder, yet that’s the narrative we often hear. It’s so hard for me as a coach and an autoimmune patient to hear people giving out actually terrible health advice.

So, this week’s community letter is for those who tilt their head to the side rather than nod in agreement. It’s for those who crinkle their nose when someone talks about eating only organic. And cringe when they hear that exercise cancels out a “bad” diet.

Head to EBWHCommunity.com now to learn why improving health isn’t about working harder, but naming what’s really holding us back.

You might think I enjoy the cold weather, because I live in New England. I don’t and can’t understand why I’m still wearing winter clothes in March!😖

I know I literally have myself to blame, because I have a whole planet 🌎 of warm places I could have chosen to live.

Yet, I chose to settle in Massachusetts, where it snows in March. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Needless to say, Columbia is my outerwear of choice to get through the long winters.

Since their winter sale is going on (and Spring hasn’t decided to visit MA yet), I might need to grab a few extra pieces for this (and next) year. Here’s a link to grab some winter gear for yourself, too: https://mavely.app.link/S5GHGsfLH1b

Drop a ❄️ snowflake if you, too, are experiencing a late winter!

Let’s be real. Health is not just about kale or willpower.

Early in my career, I believed if people just “ate right and exercised,” everything else would fall into place.

But when I started coaching clients facing real systemic barriers, I learned something deeper:

➡️ Health is food security.
➡️ Health is rest without guilt.
➡️ Health is being able to nourish your body without shame.

That’s what I help my clients ditch perfection by working towards possibility.

Send me a DM or email me at hello@enhanceblackwomenshealth.com if you’re ready to start untangling what health can really mean for you.

Three years of writing for the EBWH Community, and I’m still in awe of what we’ve built together.

We’ve talked about body acceptance, GLP-1s, health equity, and all the messy, necessary conversations that live between them.

But what lights me up most is seeing my clients live this work by turning knowledge into daily nourishment.

Equity-centered care isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s a non-negotiable.

I’m so grateful to do this work with y’all. Now tell me, what’s your favorite part of the work you do?

Want to know what six weeks of equity-centered nutrition coaching can really do? Let’s look through my clients’ eyes:

✨ Veronica found a rhythm that let her eat regularly and share a funnel cake with her niece without feeling guilty about food.
✨ Julia finally saw her cultural foods celebrated instead of side-eyed.
✨ Sheena discovered which meals fueled her best so she could avoid those inconvenient energy crashes.

That’s the magic of coaching that centers on real life and real people. DM me if you’re ready to see what your next six weeks could feel like.

I’ll be honest. My path to becoming a nutrition coach wasn’t heroic. It was personal.

As a Marine Veteran, I lived in a cycle of disordered eating and overexercising that I thought was “discipline.” Spoiler alert: it was burnout in disguise.

When I started learning about nutrition, I finally understood that health wasn’t about restriction.

It was about reconnecting with my innate hunger and fullness cues.
It was about adding nutrients instead of subtracting joy.
It was about embracing cultural foods instead of erasing them.

I’ll be sharing what that shift looked like for me (and how it might look for you) in our next Substack Live. Got questions? Drop them below, and I’ll answer them there.
