Falling is not an inevitable part of getting older. In fact, most falls are preventable. This , take simple steps to stay active, safe and independent!
Here are 6 ways you can reduce your risk of fall:
1. Start a balance or exercise program. Activities like tai chi, walking and strength training can significantly improve your balance and leg strength.
2. Talk to your doctor. Ask for fall risk assessment during your next check-up.
3. Review your medications. Have a pharmacist or doctor review your prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to check for side effects that may increase your risk of fall.
4. Get your vision and hearing checked yearly. Good vision and hearing can help you avoid hazards.
5. Make your home safer. Add grab bars in the bathroom, improve lighting, and remove tripping hazards like clutter and loose rugs.
6. Talk to your family. Include your loved ones in your falls prevention plan.
