“Sit in butterfly to open your hips!”
“Keep your knees wide to make space for baby!”

And it’s not wrong… but it’s also not the whole story.

External rotation (knees out) opens the top of your pelvis—great when baby’s engaging.
But when it’s time to push?
Internal rotation (knees in, feet out) creates space at the BOTTOM, where baby needs to exit.

This is one of those subtle-but-powerful shifts that can change everything in labor.

In Spinning Babies®, we learn when and how to move to support your baby’s natural path.

Knowledge is power—and mobility.

You are not broken.
Your body isn’t failing.
Labor isn’t stuck—it’s navigating.

Sometimes baby just needs time (and space) to move through the bony maze of your pelvis. And sometimes we need to learn how to support the tissues in those areas so they can yield.

That’s where the cardinal movements come in—those essential twists and turns your baby makes on the way out. And guess what? You can help them spin, tuck, and descend.

We don’t have to fight the stall—we can work with it.
We move with intention, create space, and support the wisdom of your body.

Join me on July 28th at Illuminated Birth in Acton, MA for a movement-based birth prep class that ACTUALLY changes things.

This is NOT to say that you shouldn’t take care of yourself or that you don’t deserve time to find out who you are!

But if we are only focused on “getting back” to something, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.

Motherhood can feel like a crisis of identity.

But what if it’s actually an invitation—to see that the “self” we’re clinging to… is fluid, made of roles, thoughts, sensations, and shifting stories?

This doesn’t have to be a loss. It could be a liberation.

Labor doesn’t just “stall.”
Babies don’t just “get stuck.”
Bodies don’t just “fail to progress.”

These phrases?
Code for: “We didn’t understand the mechanics, so we intervened.”

If care providers were trained in Spinning Babies, we’d see fewer “emergency” cesareans and more *physiological* births.

And if parents understood how movements changes things before and during labor, we might set ourselves up better for success!

You’re not broken.

There’s more to labor progressing than just waiting for the body to open.

Midwives will say the cervix will open when the body is ready, but we can help things move in that direction, before and DURING labor.

And when we prepare ahead of time pregnancy actually feels BETTER!

What if you had the tools to help make space for your baby as they moved down. Not after the fact, but during the initial process? What if we primed the pathway by balancing and releasing the tissues that needed to open and support the process of labor and birth?

No that doesn’t guarantee a perfect birth experience.

But it might increase your chances…
