Tell the Story: Why Writing Your Family History Matters
with the DCAGS Writing SIG
Have you gathered records, photographs, and documents about your ancestors but wondered what comes next? The DCAGS Genealogy Writing Special Interest Group (SIG) invites members to an engaging presentation focused on transforming research into meaningful family history writing.

This session will explore writing as an essential step in genealogy—helping researchers move beyond collecting information to sharing meaningful stories that connect people, places, and experiences. Genealogical research gains lasting value when it becomes a narrative that can be understood and appreciated by family members and future generations.

Members of the Writing Special Interest Group from the Dane County Area Genealogical Society (DCAGS) will be present to answer questions, share practical tips, and provide examples of current projects developed within the group. This session is designed to be interactive, giving participants opportunities to ask questions, discuss ideas, and explore how they might begin their own writing journey.

This program is in person at the Church of Latter Day Saints at 4505 Regent St. in Madison. We welcome all members interested in learning how to preserve their research through writing and storytelling.

Free Zoom-Only Presentation by the Rock County Genealogical Society
LOYALIST LEGACIES: THE OTHER SIDE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR
Kate Penney-Howard is a lifelong family researcher who earned a Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, and a pastor in Fort Wayne brings an enthusiastic and authoritative presentation style to this program. Not every colonist wanted independence... and one of them might be your ancestor. She'll explore how to identify and research Loyalist family members, understand their motivations, and follow their paths to Canada, England, or reconciliation with the new nation.
How to Attend: Anyone is invited to attend this free Zoom presentation on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 PM. This is a Zoom-only presentation and must be watched at the scheduled time. The Zoom link, passcode and audience handout can all be found at the RCGS website at: www.rcgswi.org/events--speakers.
