The practice meets you exactly where you are.

This practice carries us through the hard moments. It gives us a way to process, to soften, and to return—
so we can be present for ourselves and for each other.

Being a yoga teacher is not something I leave at the studio door—it lives in my heart, in my soul, and in every part of my life.

The inspiration I find in my own practice, the lessons I learn each day, and the moments that move me all weave their way into every class I share.

Teaching is my way of offering the most authentic parts of myself, weaving together everything I continue to learn and grow from.

Today, my heart is full of gratitude for this community and for the chance to walk this path of learning, growth, and connection alongside you.

Today, we’re honored to highlight one of our longtime and beloved members, Joan, whose journey reflects strength, personal growth, and a deep sense of belonging. Thank you, Joan, for sharing your beautiful experience with this community. 🤍

1) How long have you been practicing at The OM Center?

Just checked and it has been 2 years+

2) What first brought you to OM?

I moved into the area a few years ago and was looking for a center that provided more than just yoga. I wanted a place that not only had yoga classes but also a community of events. As a lifestyle.

3) What is your favorite class or type of practice at OM?

Probably vinyasa. As much as I would want to do “power yoga”, it may be more than I can do on a regular basis! But there are many options available for me to try along the way.

4) What is something you’ve learned through your yoga practice?

I have been practicing for a long time (before it was fashionable), but seriously for the past 10 years. I guess my takeaway is that it’s all about me and my practice, not the others in the class. And that’s a difficult concept when there is so much competition out there - and judgment. I also learned that quiet is wonderful. And peace from digging within your thoughts. It is a wonderful balance of movement, strength, and inner self.

5) How has being part of the OM community impacted you?

I don’t always know what I’m looking for, so I just started going to OM to experience what they had to offer. One can participate in the “back row” - come and go quietly...which I did for a while. It felt good. But with Jackie’s welcoming smile and invitation to “take more”...I did! I began to interact with the others in the room - slowly and quietly. The warmth of the community - “take me as I am” - and to be able to rejoice in the laughter of life. It’s one-stop shopping - for yourself, your community, and building a better self.

6) What would you say to someone who is thinking about coming to OM for the first time?

Just go, you will find what YOU need there. It may be different than what I need, but there is room for everyone.
