🌞If you're a summer baby, nature lover, or a sun sign (like me) this time of year can start to feel extremely heavy. After a conversation with a friend yesterday, here are some tips to help you feel connected to nature, even with our Wisconsin winters🥶
👣 Bare skin Grounding—Winter Edition
You don’t need frozen toes to ground. But if you can for 30 seconds, thats all it takes! Or...
You can try:
-Bare feet on wood floors (trees remember you) or bare feet on stone tile.
-Holding smooth rocks, soil, or sand in your hands while breathing slowly.
-Hold your hand on a tree and feel Earth's energy re-center you.
Tell your body: “This counts.”
Because it absolutely does.
🌞 Light Becomes Medicine
Ways to invite the sun back inside:
-Sit by a window every morning like a cat on a mission to absorb every ounce of sunlight.
-Use warm-tone lamps (golden, not blue) Happy lamps can simulate sunlight and sit right at your desk.
-Light candles at dusk to mimic sunset rhythms.
-Step outside for 5 minutes of daylight even if it’s cold—face the sky, breathe, come back in. Close eyes, no sunglasses.
You’re not being dramatic. Your nervous system literally runs on light.✨️
🌊Water as Nature Contact
If you can’t swim lakes, you become the lake.
-Warm baths or showers with intention- add Epsom salt, essential oils, or stones.
-Let water run over your feet and imagine roots extending downward.
-Use an ocean drum, close your eyes and envision yourself on the beach listening to the waves.
-Water holds memory and still remembers summer.
🪴Bring Living Things Into Your Space
Even one plant changes the energy of a room.
-Tend them like tiny forest friends
-Garden… but on windowsills
-Sprout herbs or microgreens.
🌿Pothos vines come in lots of fun varieties, are easy to maintain, (just keep watered) grow easily and quickly. Haworthia succulents are also very low maintenance, don't need alot of water and sturdy plants as well!
🔥Replace “Outdoor Movement” With “Elemental Movement”
Try:
-Gentle stretching near a window
-Swaying, rocking, or intuitive movement
-Shaking out your limbs like an animal warming up
-Playing nature sounds while you move
🐻Winter animals don’t stop moving.
They just move differently.
❄️Befriend Winter Instead of Fighting It
Winter isn’t asking you to thrive like summer. It’s asking you to rest like the earth does.
✨️Instead of grounding through expansion, you ground through:
Slowness, Warmth, Ritual, Containment, Stillness.
You’re not losing your connection to nature— you’re practicing a different octave of it.
You are a summer being learning winter wisdom. That wisdom says:
You don’t have to bloom year-round to be whole. You are allowed to miss the sun. You are allowed to grieve green things. You are allowed to create your own micro-ecosystem of warmth, light, and life. ✨️💜🌿🙌🏽
